Memorial Day in the US. An extra day off, or a special day to remember those who gave all. I ran across a link to this speech, and I remember it, but not very well. Well worth the view.

We do not celebrate this day in the UK but I will say that our armed forces to recognise the sacrifice that our friends in the USA give to the protection of our feedoms, no matter what side you lean on, the sacrifice is a huge one and one given in the spirit of country and freedom.

I have to say a life or major injury on either side is bad enough but if you are on the side of humanity you give more than anyone can and we salute you.

I've seen some injuries from war close up and its nasty and evil, wish we didnt have to send our friends and loved ones into harms way but they do it freely and with conviction.

I can only offer my thanks and sadness at loss to familys in the sacrifice that those brave souls give to protect what we call our freedom.

Deepest thanks and honour to all fellow Vets, living and dead who served both nation and humanity. Some did so willingly, (the majority of Vietnam Vets were volunteers), others had no choice. All did their part.
I served in a different war and a different country, but the conditions were no less severe. I wish I could say it served some tangible purpose, but it didn't, either. But it did serve on the right to freedom, and the right to life.
I live with physical pain every day from those days. But, like hundreds of thousands of others, the worst pain and scars will never be seen, and can never be shared by anyone apart from the individual concerned.
Some term me a so-called "hero", but the real heroes are the ones that never came back alive, not me.:major

Have a great holiday, folks by all means. But remember, suffering is something we all share in common, and freedom is a fragile privilege. I don't expect anyone who hasn't walked the walk to understand.

~ Peace and happiness to all.

On a lighter note, we're having a long weekend down-under, too, Foundation Day, I think).:hyper
