Once again, the tech escapes me...or least shopping for it does.

A friend bought a product called: "XtraDrive" (from mediaGear www.mymediagearcom) - a portable card reader (I believe this is something known as a "Thumb Drive" ... something to "transfer" (data/info/files/whatever?), from one computer, to this little device, so as to be able to transport it, and offload it, to another computer.

Well, the product/device came without the actual "cards".

Where might I be able to purchase just the cards, please? And can you tell me what the difference between "SD" and "MMC" is please (I'm guessing MMC=Multi Media Card)?

Everywhere I look (online) all I seem to find is the same thing that I already have, which is basically just the plastic housing for the cards.

    Thanks in advance...

    HI Glenn

If this is the drive http://www.mymediagear.com/products/id_4.html then the card types you need are MMC and yes you are correct with acronym, and SD (Secure Digital) cards

Virtually all computer retailers should have these cards and sample below are Newegg, other retailers may have better or worse prices so shop arround

    SD

    MMC

Well, as is so often the case, I'm finding that I am still confused.

I (and on your suggestion) like to bargain shop, so as I'm looking around, everything still seems to be advertised as "reader" (as opposed to "card"). I think I already have the "reader" (device/housing unit?), so I'm simply attempting to shop for the card only.

As well, I don't know if I need a reader/writer card to do what I would like to do, which again, is to take info (music, in this case) off of one PC, and transfer it onto another PC so as to be able to burn a CD with it (the first PC doesn't have a CD burner)...or can I get by with an "R" (read) only card please?

    Thanks again, and in advance...

    Hi Glenn

Thats what I linked too for you the cards, yes depending on some searching you will come across the readers, sadly its the nature of searching these days, mixed results.

Try using Bing it tends to like one of my favs Clusty to narrow down your search, in Bing when you type in the search box SD Card, you will see a dropdown with options, click SD Card and it narrow the search better.

Or use search "" as in "SD Card" or SD+card

The cards are read/write (some may have a little tag switch thing that make them read only) I use these alot in my laptop and one phone.

Yes you can do that with no issues Glenn, transfer data from one PC to another.
