    Hi

My memory (not ram) has drastically been cut in 2 weeks from 159gig left to 49gig left on my hard drive.

now i have over 500 in total and i know i have not used 110 gig of space in 2 weeks. when i download something i delete it when watched.

the only thing i have new are kaspersky, IObit maleware monitor, jdast bandwith checker.

is there something taken some sort of system mirror and saving it and taking up room somewhere?

is there a software that will scan my files and let me see the biggest ones? perhaps have them viewed through a filter ? what would be ace would be to have all my main folders highlighted or noted in what memory each has taken up so i can look for the areas with large data and narrow down my search?

    thanks in advance gentleman

SpaceSniffer will give you an idea of what's eating up your storage space. I believe you may have a lot of temp/temporary files on the computer. CCleaner will clear out the useless files.

Program called Everything is great for this. Download/install and sort by date. Next go to the bottom and scroll up a little bit at a time to see what's been added in the last two weeks. You can also sort by size to see which large files may be present that are questionable in origin.

Everything is great, but I wouldn't be without TreeSize Free too. It gives you a look at your hard drive based on the common directory trees. TreeSize gives you the ability to locate the source of a problem by enabling you to see which root folders are the largest or seem larger than normal. I use it occasionally, and I always seem to recall how much data each directory should contain. Best way to explore the hard drive that I have seen...

By the way, have you been running a disk free space wiper. Windows sometimes gets the wrong idea from those. The problem is they use 1s and 0s to overwrite free space, and sometimes Windows will act like the drive is full or filling. I have seen viruses that fill the Recycle Bin and cause this too...

    Great news.

the software you guys have helped me helped me to identify kaspersky labs as the culprit.

It has made 367 files that say they are ENC1file and the largest being 14gig!

now what are these files? some sort of smart restore backups?

are this ok to be deleted and how do i stop the program creating more?

    thanks

Have a look at this thread in the Kaspersky Forum.
