up until my recent overclocking adventures, i hadnt really heard anything about a memory divider....  Are they really that important for overclocking? Maybe someone could just tell me what they were and what they do?

That applies to a 64 bit CPU
For your system in your sig or anyone using 32 bit cpu the best performance is achieved thru (1:1) matching memory Mhz speed with the speed of the CPU Mhz

What matter most on a 64 system, OCing, is the Max Mhz, the memory will most always top out before the CPU, so by using a divider you can crank up the CPU Mhz, while still running the memory at the fastest stable speed.

My 64 system my memory tops out at 260mhz, the CPU will most likely will do 300MHz or more, the highest Ive run my CPU is 290MHz but at a cost of higher temps than I want to run
My 24/7 specs, running at FX speeds, are:
    Dfi Ultra D NF4
    Opteron 146 CPU 10x276 at 2760MHz (38% OC) (stock is 10x200)
G.skill HZ 2x1gb Dual channel pc4000/ddr500 (Using a 9:10 divider puts em at 250MHz thier rated speed)
My temps on Air using an AMD Stock HSF from a dual core cpu, one with copper heatpipes, Idle is around 31c, load goes mid 40's

ah well thats good, thought i was might be missing something on overclocking :D

new question (i know you're gonna laugh): ive hit a wall at 3.6ghz, even after upping the voltage. i hate to admit it, but i believe its my psu and its measly single 12v rail  Could this be it? It will boot to windows and all but fails torture testing. I know my memory can take its, ive run it higher, and i know my cooling is good enough now. Ideas?

Fails Torture test? Prime 95? How long before Fail?
I'd say or guess it's your Memory, try looser timmings, more or less voltage
    Run mem test
CPU reached limits ?? Ya might up the CPU voltage and see if that helps.
3.6 or 3.7GHz Do you think 100MHz would really make any differance?
If one is Stable, one aint, that's a Huge differance

PSU:) I think Ive already gave 2 cents
Does it also power your WC:eek:

yes it does power my wc but it was failing before i even had it installed. And it was failing OCCT after only a few minutes. I thought my timings were loose as it is, 2.5-3-3-7 but ill try messing with them. Ill also run MemTest.

Like i said before, your putting too much hope on a sub standars PSU with 18A on the 12+v Rail....Single 12+v with a good amount of amps will do you good(at least 25-30A) Just keep in mind, the more the better, and you will be ready for the future if you spend a little extra now...My honest opinion is,im surprised you hit 3.6 with that PSU u currently have, leave it at those speeds and i do predict a failure in the PSU or you will smoke out the wires(take it from me,ive been through this abouta year and a half ago). And ive learned quick, that you get what you pay for.,..
