I want to know the limit on how much memory my computer can handle, since I like to multi-task and do several things at once, I want as much as it can hold. Here are my specs:

    Intel Celeron, 2200 MHz
    100MHz external bus
    Intel Corp. RG84510A.15A.0057.P19.0308210949 08/21/2003
    256MB physical
    90% free resources
    2 memory slots, 1 free (256+0)
Graphics Adapter: Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller
    Screen Area/Colors: 1024x768 pixels, 16 million colors
    Monitor: Plug and Play Monitor
    C:\ (NTFS) 39197MB total, 31961MB free
    D:\ CD-ROM/CD-RW or DVD Drive
(modem) BCM BCM V.90 56K Modem
    (net) Microsoft Direct Parallel
    (net) Microsoft RAS Async Adapter

The only piece of information you need to determine how much memory a board can support is the motherboard. You don't tell us that though so I can't say for sure.

You do say it has two memory slots though. Which means at best you'll have support for 2GB tottal (1GB per slot). Although without knowing the motherboard I can't say for sure it can even handle a 1GB stick. Of course it doesn't really matter because 1GB sticks are really expensive. Most people buy 512. Which would make your max 1GB.

Although I get the impression you are running windows 98. Which can't even use more then 512 (or maybe it's 256) anyways, so installing more might not help unless you have XP or win2k.

You need the motherboard model number. Or if you have it the name Intel gave the computer (the package you bought from them) would also be enough to figure out what motherboard is in the system.

Grab a copy of Fresh Diagnose, it should be here on this site, or on Fresh Devices.com. It can tell you model number on your motherboard.
