memory upgrade ddr sodimm

hi,
just a quich question, have installed two new 512mb ddr into my laptop but i dont think it has increased the memory size ? did only have 512 but should now be 1gb,
showing:- physical 446.92mb
page file 1.03gb
virtual 2.00gb

havn't noticed any diffrence in speed of searching the internet,loading,running programs etc
any advice

Try the SODIMMs one by one. One of them might be dead. If both of them work when installed alone, consider looking for a BIOS update.

And post back with lots of details of the memory modules.

sorry for the delay been busy another project set up my wifi theres another story !!

finally got around to what you said to do, well changed them aound took one out left one in etc, still the same.....

how do i up grade the bois, running a Toshiba sat A30-921, xp home pentium 4, 2.80GHz tells me 1.6GHz 448MB of ram. you asked about the memory modules, what where do i find those details, still learning.

ust been to toshiba web page, tell me to make sure laptop is in BOOT mode not RESUME mode how do i check and change....

sorry to keep adding things just updated the BOIS still the same about the RAM memory, still showing the old 512GB when two are in place !! any more advise thanks

if anyone is interested fixed !!!! got my 1GB ram, downloaded a bootable disc from packard bell web page ran that with one stick in then placed the next stick in and hay presto !!!! computer found the memory, dont no how or what but im happy !!!
