Memory upgrade?

I have a dell 2400 desktop and it has 256 memory. My question is can I get another 256 ( I have one from my old cpu) and install it next to whats in there or just buy 512? Oh how can I tell what type it is also. Thank you for any help.

There should be a sticker on the side of the stick, pc2100, pc2700, and so on. ed

 

Thank you for the info. I will pull the other 256 and look at it. The link that was sent says I have another slot so if my old will work I will try it. Scott
