I have a Dell Optiplex gx620 with 2GB in slots 1 and 3. I tried installing 2 additional GB's in slots 2 and 4, but got a black screen with a blinking cursor.

I am running XP Pro currently. The additional sticks came from a gx620 I had at work. Everything ran fine.

This message was typed in on the computer in question after I removed the two new sticks.

Does anyone have an idea why I can't add the additional memory?

    Thanks

    I assume you mean 2GB in 2 x 1GB modules?

Are all the modules brand and speed matched?

yes, they are matched. all 4 are Dell sticks that are matched with the gx620

Are there any BIOS settings you need to change to enable dual channel support or to activate the other slots?

Are you sure all 4 sticks work?

I did not see any changes to BIOS settings required by Dell.

Yes, all 4 sticks worked. I have the same computer at work. I took the 2 additional sticks from that computer.

Do the slots you put them in work? Test the slots with your old memory to verify there's nothing wrong with the slots/motherboard.
