I'm going to be buying a stick of 512 DDR (PC3200, 400mhz) and I found there was 2 types of RAM that I could get.... What difference does a brand name make?

    There are these 2...

    $113 512MB PC3200 400Mhz 184pin DDR (Samsung)
    $129- 512MB PC3200 400Mhz 184pin DDR (Kingston KVR400X64C3/512)

Now the difference is like 15 canadian dollars, but I don't want to spend it if the difference is marginal. Can anyone tell me what the difference is please?

    Thanks hardware geeks =)

The Kingston is C3, or has a CAS timing of 3, which is as slow as they go. So, just grab the Samsung, Id say, since it wont be any slower :)

    Hi:

One thing I always remind people to do --

CHECK YOUR MOTHERBOARD SPECS, i.e., RTFM. If you don't have the manual, you can always download and install BELARC system advisor, run a system report and then use their memory link to determine what should be the ideal memory for your system.

Be very careful not to install more memory than your system allows, make sure you are purchasing the correct memory, i.e., supported clock speed, parity or non-parity. The easiest thing to do is simply go to Kingston's site, enter your mobo model number and see what they suggest. Kingston makes a good generic product.
