Merry Christmas to one and all if you celebrate this pagan festival, if you do not then I wish you well and prosperity in your chosen festival.

I just wish you a fun and safe Christmas period, to you and your families and do not eat too much turkey!

    David

    Cute picture. ;)

Other than the two reindeer, the only critters I can identify are two koalas, a platypus, a kangaroo (with hat and vest) and a cockatoo.

Not to be a downer Dave, but Saturnalia was a pagan festival.

The early Christians had a demigod, and his Father, their one true God.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and well wishes for a safe "Auld Lang Syne" to everyone.

BTW, what was in that sour wine anyway? :-D

    Hi mjnc, merry christmas.
The animals in the tree are two kookaburras, two ring tailed possums, one sulfur crested cockatoo, one galah, one rosella and two lorikeets or possibly king parrots.
The animals on the ground are a kangaroo, an echidna, two koalas, one platypus, two reindeer and probably a western blue tongue lizard and possibly a bilby in the grass.
    Cheers :drink

Wishing everyone a happy and blessed Christmas from the Phantom and 'down-under".
    Merry Christmas David and family!:cool:wave
@ Joffa :- Nice pic. and descriptions, I didn't know what everything was in detail, myself. LOL
The big bird has been partly consumed, dissected and the body disposed of ;). One thing I hate about Turkey, (apart from the eight and a half hours it took to cook it in 39C, (102f) heat wave :() is the seemingly eternal leftovers.
The monster ham is still looming in the spare refrigerator, ugh! :yum
I don't even eat much, so I look for suckers, (erm, friends) to get rid of all this grub!:drool

Do people eat turkey on thanksgiving? I thought that was only for thanksgiving. We had a dish consisting of diced steak, fries, all kinds of peppers sauted with corn, rice and potato salad. And now im going for seconds... thanks haha.

Hope ya'll enjoyed that dried up bird lol. Maybe I haven't eaten turkey that was cooked the right way. but I never enjoy it as much as chicken, fish or steak.

    Anyway. Happy holidays to all.

Turkey is only dry when people don't don't know how to cook it properly or it's four or five days old and not been stored correctly. It's like "duck is too greasy". Yes it is, if it's cooked in a puddle of fat for hours. Cook it on a rotisserie and it's a different story.:yum

  24. waryuser

I see. I did mention that I might not have eaten a properly cooked turkey.

I still think I would prefer steak over turkey no matter how juicy it is. Haha

    Enjoy the leftovers everybody

  25. Caliban

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

We always have two turkeys: one baked in a bag (talk about juicy!), one deep-fried. The fried is always quickly consumed, as is the most part of the baked. Whatever is left is then used in one of our other traditions: a turkey divan (if you've not tried a turkey (or chicken) divan, it is heaven on earth).

    Mmm, mmm...:yum

    We're a Turkey@Thanksgiving, Ham@Christmas crew here...

She Who Must Be Obeyed got a 11 lb. spiral cut ham as part of her bonus. Yummy!

  27. Caliban

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Yeah, we're probably going to get a big ham for New Year's - my version of She Who Must Be Obeyed™ insists upon the traditional ham, black-eyed peas and collards NYD lunch...

I can deal with that, but I disagree with the "You can't wash clothes on New Year's Day - it'll bring you bad luck!" mantra. I mean, what am I supposed to do when I drip peas on that nice new '80s fashion madras shirt my mom gave me for Xmas? Hmm?

    :confused

Yeah, the bag method works well. I gave the deep fried bird a miss this year as I am, (sort of) on a health kick, considering all the medical problems this year.
Funny you should talk about the Turkey Divan. That's exactly what I am cooking, (at 3:00 a.m. in the morning .rolleyes).

@ waryuser:- Yeah, I'm a steak guy too, in general, but I do like, (most) poultry as well. ;).

The ham has had less than a quarter consumed, and now I'm left with a huge "Fred Flintstone" looking Brontosaurus leg, LoL!
...Then there are the deep frozen giants :(. I get suckered into food overdoses every year. Guess I never learn.

  29. waryuser

    waryuser Private First Class

haha. I love some poultry (read:chicken). Its turkey I've never been crazy about.

I'll have to try out the baked in bag method. I heard that deep fried turkey is delicious, but I can't...

I need to cut down on steak anyway. Anyone eat seafood for the holidays?

I'm gonna try to sneak some red snapper in the menu next year.:drool

The black eyed peas w/raw onion is de rigeur around here on NYD. Never heard the "No Wash" proscription tho... What no 70's silk shirts? :-D

Thinking about saying I'm Dutch, they believe that eating donuts on New Year's Day brings good fortune. rolleyes

  31. BILLMCC66

We had lobster on Christmas day and it was yummy.

The Dutch and Belgians just love donuts and look for any excuse to eat them.

Think different countries/cultures have a different take on what to eat, for the UK we do not celebrate Thanksgiving, so in general our Turkey day is Christmas.

But indeed some eat Hams, Pork, Beef etc, not had Seafood as yet other than for an Christmas day Starter/Entrée/Appetiser

That sounds really tasty Bill and never heard yet of anyone going with Lobster, makes a change though.

*hope you all had a fun and safe Christmas next up New Year*

  33. BILLMCC66

    BILLMCC66 Bionic Belgian

The reason we went with lobster was that Laurette and i are the last members alive from both family's and it is something we both like, so it would be a waste to cook a big turkey feast just for us two and be eating it for a week after christmas.

I'm Turkey'd out, still some left now and that's after we had 8 for Xmas day!!! So think your idea would have me not feeling as stuffed at present.
