Hi Studiot - I came across this forum post after 'Googling' "Windows Live Mail message rules", because I keep getting a message rule error when receiving mail to a POP3 account in WLM.

The rule I am trying to create is along the lines of, 'if a message is sent to ... (email address) - in either the To: or Cc: field - move it to the Junk folder AND reply with message ...'. The message I want to automatically send back to anyone sending messages to a specific (disused) email address is saved in the Drafts sub-folder of that email account in the Folder list down the left-hand side of the WLM window.

    The error message reads:

The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was 'myemailaddress@ukonline.co.uk'.

Subject 'Re: Message rule test message'
    Server Error: 530
Server Response: 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. f14sm450135wbe.2
    Server: 'smtp.tools.sky.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC78
    Protocol: SMTP
    Port: 25
    Secure(SSL): No

It appears that the incoming message is moved to the Junk folder, as per the first part of the message rule, but for some reason it cannot complete the second part of the rule, i.e. reply to the message sender with a specific message.

    Any suggestions please?
