I am wondering if there is software that allows you to access your old chat conversations. I understand that you can retrieve conversations from your own computer but i am after something that allows me to retrieve conversations from the NET. Is this possible? I need to retrieve something from a conversation i had on an old computer that was wiped and thrown out.

I don't think so. MSN Messenger doesn't store you chats anywhere but on your PC and only at your request. Obtaining them from "the net" just isn't possible.

He's talking about chat logs, but is asking if there is some way to re-acquire chat logs from some uknown place on the NET. The answer is no. MS doesn't store your chats on their servers. All chat logs are stored locally.

    Oh Ok !!!!!

Well I Echo Kodo !!!! No there is no place were you can retrive Chat Logs from the Server, simply becoz MSN Does not store it, but you can get softwares to keep a track of it in future !!!!!!!

MSN Messenger has the ability to keep an indefinite log of all conversations.

In MSN Messenger, select the Tools menu, Options... menu item, and then the Messages tab. At the bottom of the dialog is an item labeled: Message History. Select it, and and your conversations will be recorded in the directory listed in the box bellow. (Of course you can set that to be whatever you like, but the default directory is probably fine for most.)

When conversations are saved, in the listed directory you'll find several files, typically one per person you've had a conversation with. The files will all end with ".XML". Not to worry, Internet Explorer can open these files, and will display them properly.

If, as I saw, IE fails to open the file and spawns notepad instead, you can still force it. Right click on the file in Windows Explorer, select Open With..., and then select Internet Explorer.
