    hi all..
i had a problem with my westernD 500gb where one of my partition become corrupted and unreadable.. i've tried chckdsk but it returns a message said dat checkdisk cannot continue because master file table is corrupted.. i've searched online and the only solution is to recover data from the corrupted partiton and reformat... the problem is i didnt hv any other storage to backup all the data in the partition since the partition is 160gb.. is there any other way for me to do this? maybe a third party software to repair the corruptd mft.. i know dat windows hv other mirror mft files but it seems that mirror is also corrupted.. i didnt want to buy othr hardsk 4 this problem since i've already hv 3 hardsk and all of didnt hv enough free space to recover almost all dat 160gb since all files on the corrupted partition is essential for me.. not really essential but it would take toooooooo much time to hv dat much... i hope there would be another solution for this...

if you need any other information, feel free to ask.. i'll respond at least once a week but i'll try to make it as soon as possible..

    well then..
    bye..

I had a similar problem with an external hard drive. One day, out of the blue, I couldn't read the data and Windows reported that the drive was not formatted, and "did I want to format it now". YIKES! I was able to successfully access the data using the free program Partition Find & Mount, but it won't rebuild the MFT. It just allows you to save the data. You can my original thread here. Once I knew the data could be accessed, I backed up the most important files and then used Boot IT to rebuild the MFT. You can read about it (with a quick "here's how I did it" post) in this thread. The Boot IT download will allow you to create a boot CD or boot floppy. Then you boot to it (duh) but when it prompts for "Install to hard drive" click Cancel and you'll then enter "Maintenance Mode". Click on the "Partition Work" button, then it's just a matter of selecting the right partition and using the "Undelete" feature.
Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

(I strongly recommend using Find & Mount first to save the more important files; BootIT can erase drives/partition forever if you click the wrong thing, but you'll usually be warned before anything disasterous takes place; my thinking is "if you can access the data, grab what you need PRONTO!")
