MGTools found

Hi, what exactly is MGTools capable of. I found a copy that was installed on my hard drive today and I didn't install the software, I've not heard of it before.

I noticed when all of a sudden my windows file explorer started going crazy and folders started opening and expanding on the left pane. When it all stopped, I started looking and found MGTools installed on the root of my C drive.

I know from searching the forum that MGTools is not supposed to be malware/spyware but could it be used in such a manner? Can it be used to gather critical or confidential info off my system? There was a getdetails program, some batch files and reg files I found that concern me.

Any ideas?

No! MGtools.exe is not malware and neither are any of the files found in the MGtools folder which is created from running MGtools.exe Mgtools is primarily just an information collector that aids us in trying to find any malware that may be located in the file system or in the registry. It does also make some minor tweaks to certain registry values that malware frequently changes to make it difficult for you to find and remove the malware. MGtools will just attempt to set these values back to defaults and will also unhide files so that malware can more readily be seen.

If MGtools.exe is on your PC then you or someone else put it there because that is the only way it would get there.

Has nothing to do with MGtools.
