I didn't want to create a new thread but the site does not allow me to reply to other people's posts, it says I don't have permission.

I am using Avira and also having trouble getting it to let me download mgtools. Avira is heuristic so that may be the problem. I told it to ignore and I downloaded anyway. Then the command window popped up and started running something but I didn't have time to see what it was. My screen went black and my computer rebooted itself for no reason. The download screen loaded as untitled and it was blank. Any help?

Encountered more problems, it doesn't seem I can continue with the read & run me first list. Just tried running combofix and it popped up a message saying that I didn't get my copy from an approved site and is probably tainted. It wasn't able to create a system restore point or backup my registry. Then it said c.bat is missing and it does nothing after that, I had to close out of it.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

This is a recent problem with Avira. Sometime within the last 3 weeks, it started falsely detecting MGtools.exe as malware which is incorrect. The problem has been reported to them but has not yet been resolved. If you are actually having malware problems (which I assume is why you are running the READ & RUN ME), you will have to disable AntiVir guard while running MGtools just like you need to do with running ComboFix.

Ok thanks. What about my problem with combofix? I ran it without Avira running and it wouldn't do a restore point and said I'm missing c.bat. What is that?

When and where from did you download combofix.exe? Was it from the link we supplied? Did you shutdown all protection software before trying to run it? Did it say anything about a Virut infection?

As stated in the READ & RUN ME instructions, you just need to keep on going.
