This may need to go in the software forum, but it stems from what I thought was a malware problem, so I'll keep it here for now.

    Background info:
    Windows 7-64 bit machine
    i5 processor
    8 GB RAM
    AVG free version virus software

A few months back, I started seeing strange behavior out of my computer. Often, while playing a game, the application would suddenly jump to desktop, as if I had alt-TAB'd right out on my own. (And no, I'm pretty sure I'm not alt-tabbing by accident.) If you returned to the game, it would do it again, then return to normal for about 4 hours or so, at which point it would double alt-TAB again. I also started seeing odd behavior from Firefox. Occasionally, after opening a new tab, the mouse would flicker back and forth from arrow to program working circle, and the entire computer would slow down. Closing the tab would stop this behavior, but often times, Flash would crash and would need Firefox to be restarted before it would work again.

I attributed this to malware, and immediately went through the MajorGeeks guide, and found a fair number of various applications with poor intentions. However, after removing all of them, I was still getting the same behavior. A few weeks went by, and the alt-TABing and Firefox jamming continued, but the problems didn't get worse, and I didn't see anything strange in my e-mail or my bank accounts, so I sort of accepted it with a note to fix it when I had some spare time.

Well, now that I have some spare time, I've been trying to fix it. I uninstalled everything on my computer that didn't relate to any systems or that I didn't recognize. I went through the MajorGeeks process again, making sure to follow the rules exactly. And at the very end of the process, MGTools kept throwing an error message at me while running processdll.exe: Application has generated an exception that could not be handled. The READ ME said that this wasn't a problem, since it just meant that I didn't have .NET framework installed. Except I do have that installed. In fact I've had to reinstall it a couple of times to get various programs to work properly. So I went and ran the .NET repair tool that Microsoft has on its website. It failed to fix the problem, but did attempt to fix something with .NET 4.4.1. So I reinstalled both .NET 4.5.1 and .NET 4.5, but I'm still getting the same issues with MGTools.

    Any suggestions?

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

I'm sorry but your problems do not appear to be due to malware. The interruptions to your gaming are more than likely due to one of the many process and services you are running that periodically forces itself into focus. You have lots or potential candidates. Even AVG. You can dicuss this issue in the Software Forum.

However you do have a little bit of junkware that needs to be removed, so let's do that.

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Files
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Conduit
    C:\Users\Daniel Morgan\AppData\Local\APN
    C:\Users\Daniel Morgan\AppData\Local\Conduit
    C:\Users\Daniel Morgan\AppData\LocalLow\Conduit
    C:\Users\Daniel Morgan\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\72dporj7.default\smartbar

    :Reg
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar]
    "{CCC7A320-B3CA-4199-B1A6-9F516DD69829}"=-
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\s]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{3c471948-f874-49f5-b338-4f214a2ee0b1}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Conduit]
    [-HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1055237580-3346744689-335010294-1000\Software\APN PIP]
    [-HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1055237580-3346744689-335010294-1000\Software\AppDataLow\Software\SmartBar]
    [-HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1055237580-3346744689-335010294-1000\Software\Conduit]
    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXT log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Thanks! That might have actually killed the "double alt-TAB" behavior, though I may just not have used the computer much this weekend. I'll take this over to the software section if it shows back up. I'll probably also switch from AVG to something a little less intrusive, as its been bugging me for the past year or two.

    Thanks again.

    You're welcome.

    Sorry for the delay.

That took care of the junkware.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by [COLOR=#009600 !important][COLOR=#009600 !important]double [COLOR=#009600 !important]clicking[/COLOR][/COLOR][/COLOR] on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
