Micorsoft Windows Update Site

I thought this was a good place to post this.

I formated my HDD, and reinstalled windows XP Pro. I go to the Windows Update Site, and i wait, and wait, and guess what? I wait some more. A whole 10 min has passed, and the page is just finished loading. It took me an hour just to get the update software installed, and then just do one scan! WTF!!!!

Also microsofts site is incredibly slow. 10 min just to get to the download page for .Net Framework. And it only downloaded at 45kbs!

This really sux, plus im on a DSL line. I can DL from majorgeeks upward from 160kbs no problem. I can visit any other site no problem! Microsoft sux!

Ya that really sucks. Cooked, you really had better learn to go with the flow. Your going to end up with some serious health problems if you don't.

Hi SMT. Other then dealing with crappy M$ every thing was pretty good. I also had a problem with them not recognizing my CD key! Boy was that a disaster. lol

I was able to relax today, and watch some football. So everything got balanced out. Im about to head off to bed. I have school at 6am.

Now M$ dropped my download! SP2 is at 13MB and wont be going any further! I just want to get on the phone and start yelling. I have a lot of experience doing that! Damn Daewoo, SBC, Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, KLH, and many many more. They have all felt my wrath. !

Relax. Don't get over excited. Get up and walk away from the computer. Go grab a snack. Pick up a book or something. Try closing down a few windows so they don't draw you back to the computer. Grab hold of yourself. This is not good for your health. lol

Ur right SP2 isnt great at all, but i need to update every thing that has come out since 2002 so im in for a long haul.

I will have to check, but I know there is a way around getting your updates without doing the SP2 thing. I haven't taken the SP2 yet myself. If you ask me, that SP2 things is (not a nice word). If you want to chew anyone out...go straight to Gates. Someone should tell him something not nice.

I had SP2, and i experienced no problems. Firewall was second rate, and i used ZA instead. Ill give a look around tomorrow.

Folks here want Cardinals and the Sox (we had a room-full, but it's trickled down to just Eric and I and our friend Bethany) I'm just enjoying the game. I like the Yankees, but it would be nice to see Boston come back and beat them. They're working hard. They'd just better not put Bellhorn in again. He was really lousing it up for them. I'm not a big baseball fan, but I pick it up by osmosis

 

There are a few sites you can d/l it as well. Guess Google will reveal which ones a.t.m. All I know is that the d/l speed from M.S. to Aust is pretty fast.

I tried S.P.2 for a while and saw no real advantages, just some pesky firewall settings. Personally, I just do all the updates, minus SP2.

Dunno, works for me.

I finally answered ya, and yer gone again, LoL!

 

I've lived in Chicago for 12 years, and though I prefer the Cubs over the White Sox, I just can't bring myself to be a Cubs fan. They're just too heartbreaking. I like the Phillies, cause I grew up there and because of the Philly Phanatic

 

Then, you are missing a lot of updates.

SP2 isn't just about the firewall...

 

Yes I realise that. I just chose the updates I wanted rather than what M.S. chose for me - something like 28 of them from memory. The only things I'm missing out on is the stuff I don't want. That was only the other day so I'm up to date. Suffice to say I've had zero infections in the last 18 months.

If you like it fine, whatever floats your boat.

I deal with a lot of sensitive programs for security companies, and a lot of the standard M.S. tools don't cut it for me. It may well be sufficient for the average gamer/user. Like I said, whatever suits your purpose.

Frankly, I don't care wether the fault lies with M.S. or a third party, suffice to say that a lot of the incompatibles are fairly recent, major programs/updates from M.S. themselves.

In a lot of cases, it may well be a case of User Error Before Keyboard, but I wouldn't have many customers left if I said either directly, or by implication they were idiots.

Well i let MS Update run all day and i finilly got SP2 downloaded. I just use it for the updates, the firewall really sux. Im using ZA in place of it.

Im more relaxed now.

Cooked, why don't you do the downloads when you first get in from school? This way while your doing your assignments, it will all download and be ready for when your done.

over 100MB of DL since last night. Now the last one MS Media Encoder is at 60% at 1.2kbs

At least its an improvement.

MS Media Encoder finilly finished. Even though i have had bad luck with downloading. I was pleased with MS support. I was on my 4th time installing windows on this computer, and i need to update my activation ID. I was put through right away, and my problem was solved in minutes.

This was the best support i have talked to in months. On the plus side, they spoke fluent english too.
