Microphone Help

Hi,

I know this may sound strange or common sense to you guys, but I am baffled with something.

For some reason whenever I come to plugging my microphone into PC the sound from the mic comes straight out of my speakers, whenever I try and test the mic or try and record something it doesnt work or even register, its going in then straight out through the speakers.

OS: Windows XP SP2
Motherboard: MSI K8N Diamond
Using "Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit"

Speakers if you need to know them: Logitech X-230

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
