I have msmoney 2004 edition which had been running fine, until Norton Antivirus program was renewed and no when I try to access the Money program it tell me"unable to initalize a required money component. Please reinstall money from your original products disks." What happened to my years of banking??? I still see my back file in my documents, but unable to open them also. Pleae help......since microsoft is once again NOT helpful.
    Thanks

First, I would disable/turn off the "scan compressed files" feature of Norton Antivirus and see if that solves the problem.

I don't use Norton's so I don't know where to tell you to look, maybe options or settings.

Possibly disable the program (Norton) while disconnected from the Internet and try again. I dropped Symantec after using 2004, and having to reinstalling 2003 to stay online. Many useful features, but it seemed to have more control over the operating system than I did.
I've used another Internet Security Suite since then, and will probably go back to a stand alone version of firewall, anti virus, and anti spyware programs when it is time to renew.

Unhook yourself from the internet and disable Norton, then try Money, this may narrow down if its Nortons fault or Moneys.

But the below is likely cause, in that a registry key is corrupted, so their are some listed fixes, you may or could need to re-install Money ( so hope you haev the CD still ), your saved files should not disapear and will still open if money is removed and re-installed, but in any case back them up to another part/folder on your hard drive or CD/USB pen.

If you are wanting to just disable Norton, right-click the system tray Norton icon and you should see a "disable" option.

    Disable, turn off, quit.......anything?

Try the main Control Console or access Nortons from All Programs and see if the option is there.
