i've downloaded microsoft antispyware in an attempt to follow the "READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support" thread. Everytime I try to run the microsoft antispyware install executable something is shutting it down. Any ideas what this might be?

    Thanks.....

    Welcome to MG's!

    What OS do you have?

Try installing in safe mode and if that does not work, just skip it and do the rest of the steps. (You could try CounterSpy instead.)

    thanks for the welcome,

I'm on XP SP2....can't do the install in safe mode since windows installer is not running....

as a matter of fact when trying to review your reply whatever it is shut down my browser session, nasty booger

anyhow I'm running in safe mode now but still cannot get microsoft antispyware to install in regular mode, ran through all the steps in the newbies sticky, I'm at a loss now, thanks for any further help

p.s., ran counterspy since I figured that would be the first suggestion that came my way, found some stuff too....

Attach the BitDefender and PandaActive scan logs as per the READ & RUN ME. You did not say anything about not running them due to your problems so I assume you ran them.

Also attach a HijackThis log, but did you install it as required? Make sure it is not in a temp folder or located in any sub-folder of c:\Documents and Settings

Statements like the below are not very useful to us:
Telling us exactly what it found (by malware name and file names) and whether it was fixed or not fixed is what we need to know. The READ ME says:
