Microsoft AntiSpyware

    I fully understand that this is a Beta (test) version I would like to know about 2 items that it found on my computer that Ad-Aware and SpyBot did not find.
    So here they are and can anyone tell me if these are just a "false" positive??

    PowerReg Scheduler says that this is spyware

    SearchSquire         says that this is adware..

    Mine came up with those as well. I trashed SearchSquire, and ignored PowerReg Scheduler as it is just a nag to register either an Epson printer or a Palm-- can't remember.

    The Search Squire detection is FALSE. It is detecting the Restriced Zone info put into your registry by Spybot or a similar program to protect you from bad sites.

    The PowerReg Scheduler stuff is no big deal . Almost everyone has it on their PC from some vendor or another. It is a reminder program.


    Here are some observations I have made with MS Antispyware (note I have not had a chance to try it on a lot of different PCs yet):

    1) Detects this file c:\winnt\avxoscan\bdupd.dll as Brilliant Digital
    Wrong!!! This is BitDefender. They should know better. They even show the MD5 code.
    Aren't they looking at the MD5? You cannot just look at filenames.

    2) The two following registry keys as SearchSquire Adware
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\searchsquire.com
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\searchsquire.com * 4

    Wrong!!! ZoneMap is where Spybot and other programs insert info to block bad sites. There are over a 1000 keys here. Why was this one signaled out? Why not complain about all if they are just looking for names? Does it even make sense to be complaining about anything in ZoneMaps?

    If I find anything else that is questionable I will be sure to post back.

    I really do appreciate the time and effort that is put in by the people who help us work out the "kinks", "bugs", etc.. on our computers. The do have a life outside of this forum but yet they sit here tirelessly and try and help us out. Just wanted to let everyone know that you all are greatly appreciated by me. :) :)
