I had a major Trojan attack and in the process discovered I can't activate Microsoft Firewall. I get a message saying my Firewall is off but when I try to activate it says I can't and when I try manual it give error code 0x8007042c. I assumed my firewall was on so I am unsure if this problem was before the ADP Trojan struck. Mr. Fixit from Microsoft said it found problems but was unable to apply the fix. So I found your site and I followed the Read and Run me post..hopefully the logs will help

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You need to attach the logs from the below tools as requested:
    • Malwarebytes
    • TDSSKiller
    • MGtools - the log is C:\MGlogs.zip It is not in the C:\MGtools folder

sorry I thought I had sent all except the Malware one...if the ones I sent are right I don't know where the TDSSKiller and I had major problems with the MGtools...even after I deactivated protection services or at least any that I could find...I am clueless.. :(

The previous post said not to run twice so wonder if I should....do again...although not sure about the mgtools...also I unistalled AVG and installed Nortons earlier today...and reactivated my User account control now that I have norton firewall does it matter if micorsoft is broke...

sorry for taking up your time and if I did something I shouldn't have

See the instructions given for running it. They told you this is in the root folder.

You can try the below but Norton must be disabled first.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Yes it does because other services are likely broken too. You have a ZeroAccess infection which can be quite dangerous and damaging and Norton will not remove it. This was a bad thing to do at this point.

I sincerely apologize for any mistakes I made...I reran the two files and I am attaching the results...I turned off Norton and my User Access Control before doing so....also want to make note..that when I ran TDSSkiller it gave an error message it couldn't initialize although it was initiallizing...then i said ok and it gave me another error message saying "can't load driver" while still initializing...it finished initializing and I ran it and the scan said no threats found. I hope I did this right

I assume I need to stay off the internet until this is resolved because I had to turn off my virus protection and my User Account Control...I play an MMO online...does this also include staying off of that..it is Guildwars 2

You don't have to keep your antivirus protection disabled. You only need to disable it before downloading and running any of the tools and procedures we ask you to run to avoid having it get in the way. In between you can enable it. UAC is best to keep disabled until we finish up.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {A3BC75A2-1F87-4686-AA43-5347D756017C} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {CCC7A320-B3CA-4199-B1A6-9F516DD69829} - (no file)4.16.0.cab
    O18 - Protocol: linkscanner - {F274614C-63F8-47D5-A4D1-FBDDE494F8D1} - (no file)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Be patient while doing the below. The fixes can sometimes take quite awhile to run. Especially the permissions repairs. It may be best to kick it off and goto bed or do something else. It is better not to run anything while the repairs are going on.

Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.
    • Now run Repair_Windows.exe by double clicking on it ( if you are running Vista or Win 7, use right click and select Run As Administrator)
    • Now select the Start Repairs tab.
    • The click the Start button.
    • Create a System Restore point if prompted.
    • On the next screen, click the Unselect All button to first deselect all repairs.
    • Now select the following repair options:
      • Reset Registry Permissions
      • Reset File Permissions
      • Register System Files
      • Repair WMI
      • Repair Windows Firewall
      • Remove Policies Set By Infections
      • Repair Winsock & DNS Cache
      • Repair Proxy Settings
      • Repair Windows Updates
      • Set Windows Services To Default Startup
    • Now on the lower right side check the box to Restart/Shutdown System When Finished
    • Then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled.
    • Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.
    • Now click the Start button.
    • Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
    • It should reboot automatically when finished.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

You're welcome. Okay there is one more item that we need to fix.

    F3 - REG:win.ini: load=C:\Users\Melanie\LOCALS~1\Temp\mszifivd.pif

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Then reboot your PC and run analyse.exe again and make sure that line is still gone. Let me know. If it is gone, you can move on with the below. Only do the below if it is gone.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Go back to step 4 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
