I have an older Dell Dimension 8100 that is running ME. It was not used for about a year. When I powered the CPU and plugged in the wireless Microsoft Intellimouse that is USB compatible (I'm using the USB port) the cursor was frozen. A screen came up about compatiblity but I could not get to the screen because the cursor was frozen I couldn't even get to change over to use the arrows on the keyboard to operate the cursor. It is the same mouse that I had previously used. I tried shutting down and rebooting but it didn't help.

    Any suggestions folks?

You should be able to use 'tab' to cycle the highlight around the different buttons. If you can't even do that, try to determine if it is hanging up your system. Also, look on the box or in the documentation of the mouse and make sure it can even run on ME, it may not be able to.

I would put a normal compatible mouse in and download the appropriate drivers for your chipset, USB and ms mouse. Install the chipset drivers then the USB drivers, turn off your computer, plug in the ms mouse, and hopefully when you boot up your system will not freeze, then install your new mouse's drivers.
