Hi all.First off I am not very computer savvy. I am running xp sp2 and need to load microsoft office I bought for my son to use for school. It needs service pack3 to run . Have tried to download it from here but i get a update.inf file is not correct error. I have had computer problems before and have had it worked onand am not sure if my xp is legitimate anymore so I am not sure about going to microsoft site. Any help in getting me able to load the software I bought would be appreciated. Thanks.

Does this computer have a recovery partition on it? When booting up, do you see any messages to press F2 or some other function key to access setup?

Why do you suspect that it is not a legit install of XP?

What is the make/model and system specs?

Else, you could also use Open Office, very similar to Word, especially in the basics.

I took a computer, running XP with SP2 that hadn't worked since sometime in 2009 to Windows Update last week. SP3 was the first thing offered and it installed from the windows update site with no problem. Have you tried that?
