microsoft word is locked

i don't know if this is the right place for this question so sorry if this is wrong. does anyone know how i can unlock a microsoft word document? i was copy/pasting something and all of the sudden the menu and toolbar was locked. and i tried to fix it on my own but all i could find was how to unlock a subdocument, which is not what i did. i locked the whole document somehow. when i try to type something, it says "this modification is not allowed because the doecument is locked." does anyone know how i can unlock Word?
