Microsoft Word issue

Cannot print in WORD. Printer works fine in all other apps.
Tried "FInd Printer" = tells me that "Directory Service is currently unavailable"
Hope this is the issue, sounds easy fix, but I know not how to enable the directory service.

using the find printer button was only one of several things I tried to attain printer function...... what I have now is a situation where, when I ask WORD to print, the printer sucks up a sheet of paper, makes the normal chewing sounds, then spits the paper out as if it had printed - but it hasn't printed a single mark.
Am in hopes that this detail may spark a memory for you - have never had this issue before and have tried all I know.

Have reinstalled printer, same issue. Will print from anywhere except WORD, but now is worse in that it will only print partial pages from Acrobat Reader, which was fully functional before. Cripes, it gets worse in the fixing of it!
Am ready for a new printer, but am not convinced that it's to blame.
Any ideas?
