microsoft word problem

using microsoft word and windows xp home

the problem is that there are no toolbars on the page and no amount of left clicking and searching through the menus available to retrieve the toolbars.

i have attached a screenshot of the typical layout when i open any word document

as you can see all the file, edit, etc options are gone along with all the usual toolbars.

Can any help me retrieve the situation, many thanks for any help.

 

its 2000 professional and yes the same thing happens when launching via start.

its very strange, i have never encountered anything like this before at all
