Microsoft Word

    After upgrading to Win 10 from 7, I'm having trouble with MS Word 2000 getting "Stopped Working, etc.," following a few normal operations with this app after a reboot. I know it's not supposed to be compatible with 10 and I've tried all the various OS compatibility options to no avail. Anyway, I'd purchase MS Office but I just have need for Word.

    I see several free versions of Word offered on the net from various sources and was wondering if any of these are legit.

    There are several free third party office suites available which are compatible with MS Office, including Word. I understand Libre Office is good though I haven't used it personally.

    I use LibreOffice. It comes with 6 different parts. You have to download but not use the 6 parts.
    You want LibreOffice Writer.
    There is a portable version if you want to try it before you install it.

    My husband has Office on his 2 computers. I don't have Office on my 2 computers but from time to time I wish to see something that was emailed to him so LibreOffice works fine. He also works on a database for me. When I want to see it on my computers, I use the Base portion of LibreOffice to view it.

    Don't use AbiWord. I tried that and it didn't always render properly. Then I saw a post that it hadn't been updated since 2012.
