I have a couple of prblems and I hope I am in the right place for them.First off I tried to update my Java and it won't update,I keep getting 2 error numbers.....The reason I tried that is because I can't play games at Pogo nor Yahoo either one and another friend said she couldn't either til she updated her Java. Well....I thought maybe I had some kind of bug and my Avast didn't find anything so I tried to run Housecall....every time I put a check mark in to agree to the terms and then click on Launch Housecall my browser closes on me.....so I thought maybe my IE7 had a problem and I went to Firefox and went to housecall again and the same exact thing happened in the same spot.So now I don't know what is wrong. Also, when I go to Yahoo games and sign in and then click on the "Click here to continue" link....my browser closes on me.Can someone please tell me what is wrong and what to do.This is on my last nerve.I have ran ALOT of stuff on my computer and it's not helping any at all.
Thanks you in advance for any help anyone can give me.

What firewall are you running? ZoneAlarm have problems these days. Try another online scanner - this is Kaspersky. This is how to update Java:

    1. Run a scan here but don't download any new Java yet: http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
    2. If old Java program(s) is detected go to Add/remove programs via Start -> Control Panel and uninstall all old Java version(s)
    3. Run this special tool to get rid of the remains of old Java: http://prm753.bchea.org/JavaRa.html
    4. Now install the new Java version(s)
    5. Reboot
    6. If it worked: delete/uninstall the special Java-cleaning tool that took care of the remains
    7. Save a copy of these instructions so that you'll know what to do the next time
    8. Download Secunia PSI RC3 and run it. It will always keep your PC updated

:dood And take it easy. :-D We'll fix it for you. :cool

Also go to Add/remove programs and remove this little support program that House Call installs in order to be able to run it's online scanner. Maybe it's just too old. Then try House Call again and see. House Call's online scanner renews it's version ever so often and the new support program should be offered to you when you try again. I think 6.6 is on it's way.

    Hi Cordialis,
Thank you for replying to me.I did this.....

"What firewall are you running? ZoneAlarm have problems these days. Try another online scanner - this is Kaspersky." ( I don't know how to do the quote thingy, lol)

The firewall I use is Ashampoo...and I have turned it off when trying to do the housecall...and it still does it.Now I tried the Kaspersky scan...same thing happened, when I clicked on the scan now my browser closed on me.I have no clue why it is doing this.
Another thing I have noticed is sometimes when I rebooting or even just shutting my computer down I get a Sys Fader error saying that it is trying to close.I have no clue what that is either and it is not running in my Processes anywhere. And it also takes IE7 forever to open when I do open it...a good minute or longer.

I appreciate the help you are giving me and hope you can still help me.

Let's try this: go to IE7 homepage here and download IE7 again. It should offer you a repair install. Go for that repair and just do as the promts recommends.

If this fails I think a malware check is called for. Just follow these guidelines.

Thanks Cordialis....I went here and clicked on the download for IE& again and it didn't offer no repair,it completely reinstalled it again and it is still doing the same stuff.Guess I am off to do the malware stuff.Do I come back when done?
    Thanks again.

Yes, please do. We would like to hear how it went and if any issues remains, we'll gladly help you with the rest. :) I don't understand what happened to IE7's repair option. Interesting...

One other thing you can try is open Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Manage Add-ons and disable any add-ons, especially the ones you do not recognize.

Restart IE and see if you have the same issues. If not, you can enable the add-ons one by one and find the culprit..........maybe.

I started doing the Malware removal stuff and the very 1st thing about the java has stopped me already. At this part......

"Skip this Sun Java update procedure if using Windows 98 or ME. Uninstall ALL old Sun Java versions because they have vulnerabilities and then get updated.
    See: Updating Sun Java "

I went to my add/remove programs to uninstall it and I got 2 error pop-ups.I am attaching a screenshot of them because now i don't know what to do.I am sooo frustrated with this!! This is not the 1st time I did the Malware removal instructions at this site,so I am not a newbie....just a frustrated woman right now....:cry

I hope someone out there can help me.I won't do anything else til I hear from someone.
    Thanks in advance.

Start in safe mode and log in as administrator. Then try again in safe mode. If this fails - just leave Java there and go on with the guidelines. Some of the downloads that you need later on could be tricky. Try downloading in safe mode, then.

I tried to delete it Safe Mode also and it won't let me.Says something about the Windows Installer might not be downloaded correctly ,whatever that means.I really don't understand it all...I run Avast!...I run XoftSpy Nightly,I have SpywareBegone scan on start up...I run CCleaner and Reg Vac every so often and a couple of other things.I tried housecall again and it didn't close on me...but it says I need Java to run it and I can now also get in Yahoo games ...another words my browser is no longer closing on me.I really think if I can get the Java straightened out that I will be ok.Even my IE7 is running better after reinstalling it.My Java is only in my add/remove programs...it is no longer in the control panel. There is a couple of folders of it in a couple of different places but I am afraid to delete them.Any other ideas?
    Thank you again.

About SpywareBegone: this product is most likely a rouge. This means that it downloads spyware. It will not hinder it. Quoting the internationally acknowledged Spyware Warrior this program belongs in this group:

products are of unknown, questionable, or dubious value as anti-spyware protection

And XoftSpy Nightly is even worse. It is also likely to contain spyware. Quoting same source:

    dubious license terms (1, 2); variant of NoSpyX, SpyVest, Spyware Cleaner, Spyware Slayer, Spyware Stormer, Spyware Wizard, & X-Spyware (1); Ad-aware knockoff [A: 12-7-04 / U: 1-29-05]

So now we know why you can't download any real protection. These trash programs won't let you. And RecVag will ruin you computer sooner or later. Get rid of it. All three of them.

OMG I can't believe I answered this once and it didn't post....let's try it again...I downloaded all of that stuff because a good friend of mine swears by them all and says that they are what keeps his computer clean and running right,so I thought if they worked for him then they would work for me.Now everything that you said about SpywareBegone and XoftSpy I also heard all of that about Spybot search and destroy....so which spyware/malware remover and protection am I supposed to use?I basically told you everything that I have installed and use on a regular basis....I also have Ashampoo as a firewall.I will wait to hear from you before I uninstall these things ,as I don't want to be without some kind of protection until then.Is my Avast! virus scan ok to use?I want to make sure I have good protection on my computer.I want to be able to enjoy my computer instead of having to do this stuff to it all of the time.
About my java....a friend sent me the java that he uses which is an older version and it installed with no problem whatsoever, and now it wants to update,so what do I do?
Thanks again for helping me with all of this.So my IE7 is working better and my java is back....but I know there is still more for me to do,lol

You can't equal the advice of SpywareWarrior to that of you friend. The advice of SpywareWorrier is expert advice and - as an example - frequently used as a source by Wikipedia. This is a heavy authority. SpywareBegone and XoftSpy is useless and should be removed.

Spybot Search & Destroy is far better even though it has fallen a bit behind. It has realtime protection which a lot of the freeware programs don't. It is recommended for use by lots of malware experts - among them Majorgeeks.

Your antivirus, avast!, will do just fine.

Recommendable freeware firewalls according to Majorgeeks with download links:

    PC Tools Firewall Plus
    Zone Alarm Free
    Outpost Free
    Comodo Personal Firewall

Old Java is a serious security risk because malware writers have used Java in the past to slip their filth into our computers. This is one major reason why the Java company have issued new versions. You should update immediately. This is how to do that:

    5. Reboot
    6. If it worked: delete/uninstall the special Java-cleaning tool that took care of the remains. The next time you need to use it - look for an updated version
    7. Save a copy of these instructions so that you'll know what to do the next time

You should also download Secunia PSI RC3 and update all else according to it's suggestions. Download link here.

    Malwarebytes is free.
If you don't activate, you must manually update and scan.

Sorry, I don't have java installed. There are so many things on Sun's site that anytime I go to see something about Java, I get totally confused as to what is what.
