Might be nothing (just making sure)

I think this topic goes here.

My comp has been acting a little funny. At first I thought it was overheating, but someone brought to my attention that it might be infected.

When my CPU reached temps of 50-57c it crashes, and make a siren (bee bah bee bah) noise. My BIOS said my processors (2g amd athlon) shut off temp is 75c (IIRC.. might be 95c) so it's a little odd that it would do that. Or it's just a coincidence. My buddy asked me to count the number of beeps it made. After about 2000 beeps, I gave up (LOL he commended me on my patience BTW) Also, when I switch the power off from the back of the tower, wait for the beeping to stop, and then switch back on, and then I try to turn the PC back on it just beeps incessantly again until a wait a while to turn it back on.

My little brothers also told me that they can't play ANY video games as well. Like when they boot up the game it just crashes at the black screen (doesn't load or anything) and just acts like they never gave it the command to start the game.

The comp is almost 4yrs old now, and hasn't had any parts replacement since I got it made by my friend. I was told that it might be a problem with the RAM, PSU, and other internal components. But since I started searching around a little, I'm getting worried that it might be some kind of malware/infinite beep type deal. I currently have AVG free, and lavasoft adware, but I just installed spyware guard, and spyware blaster from this site.

Any help will be well appreciated, and I'll try to post as much info as I can to help you guys out as well... try to keep it as laymen as possible though, I don't know much about comps LOL.

Thanks for reading, and the help. ;)

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

I doubt this has anything to do with malware and as such, I'm moving this to the Hardware Forum.

The first thing I would do is unplug the PC and clean out all the dust (if any) inside the computer and the heatsinks. I use 'canned air' for this. Once it is nice and clean, plug it back in with the side panel off, and see if all the fans are spinning when you start it up.

Befor you plug it back in and start it, make sure the RAM, video card, and all the plugs are plugged in properly.

That sort of beeping you describe might be a motherboard alarm. That means it is too hot, the power supply voltages are not what they should be, or the fan is not running at normal speeds.

Thanks for the help guys. I gave it a good cleaning a few weeks a go, and did it one more time today just to be safe.

The last time the comp crashed I recorded the MB temp at 32c, the CPU at 55-56c and the HD temp at 35c. I'm not too sure but I believe these are all normal?

Went over the plugs, and connections and everything seems fine to me.

I'll see how it goes over the week, and report back.

Thanks for all the help everyone. Thanks for moving it to the appropriate forum chaslang. ;)
