   Any recommendations of a good program for migrating settings and data to a new vista based computer from an older xp computer. Reinstalling programs is not important, but settings and data would be very helpful. Suggestions or ideas are appreciated.

   You may find this will get most of your settings, it wont get all but the majority of them Windows Easy Transfer ( you dont need the cable, external hard drive, CD or DVDs will work fine )
   
   Also I would manually copy all your important files to CD/DVD with the burning softwware you may have on your PC at present, just as backup.
