Migrating Profiles

Hi everyone, I have inherited a network that needs a bit of reorganisation and I'm looking for advice that will help me avoid having it all go pear shaped on me.

Here's the current scenario;

Domain Controller - Server 2003
Terminal Server - Server 2008 64-bit

The DC is running out of space with most of it being taken up by user profiles.
Login times for TS are painfully slow. My first idea is to make more space on the DC by migrating user profiles to the much more powerful and spacious TS. I set up a test user and tried to point the profile to somewhere on the TS but it was having none of it. Sample path used \\TS\Users\username. Tried letting the DC create the folder in that location with no joy, then created the folder manually and still no joy.

Is there an easier way to migrate profiles off a DC to a TS and keep everything intact?

first thing you should do is cleanout unused profiles. try that and see how much more room you get

 

Already did that but it looks like it was done fairly recently so not much change. One thing I have noticed after running Treesize on the drive to see where all the space is going is that under Documents & Settings everyone has a folder, but also under Profiles everyone has a folder but much smaller in size.

 

Next check the modification date and see which are actually used. are your users using roaming profiles?
