mini dv camcorder as web camera

can a mini dv camcoder be used as a web cam for instant messenger, if so how is it done. And do i use fire wire or usb. hope some one can help me out here. thank you.

Yes - the if the cam has iLink (firewire) or you'll need a videocapture card..like the old Snappy or Dazzle devices I've used...
But now they have USB, PCI, ect

Snappy has a low frame rate - it connects to the LPT port - but they are cheap on Ebay. More info @ http://worldcadaccess.typepad.com/gizmos/2005/04/software_for_sn.html
