    Greetings,

I am asking for help sorting out what to do with driver? error messages. I ordered a new computer to my specs and although it's still really fast, it's not as fast as it used to be and there are some occasion error messages that I have tried to solve and have not been able to.

I am afraind I just don't know what some of these terms are or what to do (or not do) about them. I certainly do not want to suddenly not be able to use my computer at all, or have a black display or some nightmare like that.

I have attached a screen shot from Device Manager...under Display Adapters there are two entries with yellow warning triangles. The first and second tabs are the same for both and are there side-by side.

The third yellow warning triangle is under Other Devices - Marvell. I sure have no idea what these are connected to, or how to solve them....thanks to Photoshop I pasted the info from two tabs relating to the Marvell device.

My Graphics card is: SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD5750 1GB GDDR5 PCIE

My MoBo, well, here is the rest of the system:

    CU-197-101 OEM INTEL i7-920 2.66GHZ 8M LGA 1366
HD-504-106 80GB Intel X25-M 2.5 inch SATA MLC Solid State Disk
    RM-317-501 2GB DDR3 / 1600 MHZ MEMORY
FA-212-103 XTREME GEAR HP-1216 HEATPIPE CPU FAN AM3/775/1366
    CD-128-101 BLACK LITE-ON 24X DVDRW
    MISC NO SLI/CROSSFIRE
    MB-340-121 GIGABYTE X58A-UD3R 3WAY CROSSFIRE & SLI DDR3 USB3.0 SATA3
    MR-104-101 12-IN-ONE INTERNAL CARD READER (<--broken POS)
PS-126-106 AZZA XTREMEGEAR 600 WATT POWER SUPPLY
USB-102-101 NZXT INTERNAL USB 6-PORT EXPANSION MODULE
    VC-192-101 ATI RADEON 5750 1GB DDR3
CS-180-115 SILVERSTONE RV01B-W FULL TOWER W/WINDOW BLACK NO POWER
    HD-403-108 1TB SATA II 3.0 GB 7200RPM HD (x2 RAID 1 config)

The display/monitor I am using (really awesome for realistic colors and viewing angle) is a NEC MultiSync EA231WMi.

I have tried to "update drivers" automatically from Device Manager for all three warnings. I am advised that the drivers are already installed and up to date for the Mirage Drivers...

For the Mirage, I get a box saying that Windows could not find the software or install the device. Which device is it? --I wonder) -- I think the graphics card is an ATI device [no, it's an ATA] and is installed and configured by their "Catalyst" wizzard - tons of settings options there...CCC = Catalyst Control Center...there is a CCC, a CCC Advanced, and a CCC Wizzard. The Wizzard has two options: Set up my Display (it's correctly on 1920x1080), and HydraVision Configuration Settings....sheesh...what to do? I wonder if the graphics card's driver are OK. Looks like the ATI Radeon HD 5700 series drivers are up to date.

I also have a eSATA (<--I think it's called) external drive connected. Maybe the Marvell issue is a Gigabytes MoBo issue? Again, I do not know how to approach this and sure hope someone can help get me un-confused.

    Where do I start.

    TIA

    Greetings, drcarl.

The Marvell device is most likely SATA-related.

I don't know your operating system and Service Pack #, but based on the Aero look in your screenshot, I plugged in Win7 32-bit on the following page: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3449#dl . Two Marvell entries show up: Marvell Console Driver (SATA3) and Marvell RAID Utility (SATA3). You might take a look at them - plug in your OS, and heed the caveat about installing the Console Driver first.

Not sure about the Mirage entries. You might try disabling/uninstalling the CCC (it's certainly not needed), see if that changes anything. You might also take a look in your BIOS for anything SLI-related, see if there are any options.

Sheesh - included everything but the OS...Win 7 Home Premium x64, ver. 2.0.4037.496 updated constantly (though I'll probably not install the upcoming SP1 yntil we see what all it breaks)

At Gigibyte, the two Marvell entries show up for the x64 version as well, so I'll update them in the order you mentioned.

I'll go take a peek at the BIOS in a minute...will look for SLI-anything (web search says that has something to do with multiple graphics cards - I know I could do multiple monitors, yet 1) the computer is not supposed to be configured that way, and 2) I only have one card [there may be more graphics stuff on the MoBo?]) --anyway, I'll look

If I remove the CCC, what controls the options that it offers to control? (anti-aliasing, anisotropic rating, mipmap, video colors, etc...{not that I ever really change these})

    Thank you for your thoughts,

    drcarl

Yellow warning triangle for Marvell is gone (installed the two drivers from Gigabyte), yet the two Mirage Driver warning entries remain.

Update driver (automatic online search) says: "the best driver is already installed" (for both Mirage Display adapter entries)

Web searching to DemoForge, the driver provider at http://www.demoforge.com/dfmirage.htm reveals that DFMirage is "cutting edge" video driver mirroring technology for the Windows NT OS family.

In Device Manager, under properties I learned (and provide for clues) :

    Driver Provider: DemoForge
    Date 1/11/2008
    ver: 2.0.105.0
Dig Sig: MS Win Hardware Compatibility Publisher
    Details:
    C:\Windows\system32\dfmirage.dll
    C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\dfmirage.sys

The DemoForge site says: " The uninstallation of DFMirage is fully supported. The uninstaller is registered with the "Add/Remove Programs" applet of Control Panel." --although I see no DemoForge or Mirage entries under add/remove--

I am tempted to uninstall them yet don't want to lose the ability to see my display...or any other kind of accident

BTW - I also removed the CCC - Catalist apps.

Also, for sometime in the future...

Is it advisable to go down the entire list of drivers in System Manager and click update to see if something newer is available?

Should I trust a program like "SlimDrivers" to do that?

Should I install ALL the drivers from Gigabyte for my rev 1.0 board?

    Thank you for your reflections,

    drcarl

Frankly, I'd advise against updating drivers just for the sake of updating - usually, device drivers are rewritten to address specific problems. If you don't display those problems, then there's really no sense in updating.

Same goes for for programs such as 'SlimDrivers' - IMO, stay away from them. If the need arises, go directly to the OEM website for any software that's required to address any hardware problems with your machine, and let Microsoft take care of Windows via Windows Update.

I'm a firm believer in 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'. ;)

Curiosity still haunts me on occasion...

Although everything seems to be operating alright, I do still have yellow warning triangles on two of the three Mirage Driver entries under Display Adapters in Device Manager.

I wonder if it's normal to have three Mirage Driver entries (the first one has no warning)?

I still wonder what they are for.

I wonder if they could be uninstalled.

    I know,...if it ain't broke....

    ;)

Yeah, I know the old adages - but, if you're like me, you can't stand to see those warning signs in Device Manager, regardless if the machine's running well or not...

Why not set a Restore Point and see if you can get rid of them? I looked at the DemoForge page, and the uninstall looks fairly straightforward.

MUAH hah ha haaaaaa - novel idea....

I set a restore point, then disabled the two drivers...restart...A O K.... uninstalled them...restarted....A O K...no more warning signs...nice....(I suspect that if they are needed in the future, Windows will do a good job of finding the right ones)...

I have to sit in amazement how smart these OS's are now...especially in comparison to my first computer, an 8 MHz laptop [20 MB HD!], and my first (expensive) online experience in 1987 - been online ever since.

    Thank you for the input

    MG Rocks!
