Some way, some how I've lost the ability to access my A drive.

It will attempt to read a floppy but then will ask if I wish to format when the inserted disc already is.

I was also unable to access my A drive thru MSDOS and received an "A drive is not a valid drive" error message.

I'm thinking a bad drive, just wanna get another opinion or two before I change it.

Thx to all who reply. ;)

What version of Windows, is it 98 or 98SE? Steve

I *believe* it's WIN98....It's not my machine so I can't say with any conviction one or the other.

Any ideas on what I'm dealing with here?

    Thx

Also, could this also be the reason why EVERY time I try to access Internet Explorer "Windows" Explorer errors and closes?

Maybe. Have a look here, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;131690

See if this helps your floppy drive issue.

    Steve,
Thanks for the info. Most of what I read I had already tried but I'll give it a go once again in case I missed something.

I've never seen a machine completly lose the A:\ directory. Any idea how this might have happened?

    DrumGuy,

See what happens with the "A drive thing" and the Microsoft Support article.

Then, I would post very specific problems, issues and specifications. I think that will help solve your problem(s) in a timely manner, the more information the better. :)

Check to make sure that the cable is plugged in, and that it is not backwards.
