Ok, I am using imgburn to create iso , and I have winrar installed on spare computer, so the iso image appears in the folder as a zip file and looking in winrar it is showing as an iso file, so that is where I used eicfg to remove that file and then use imgburn to extract to a dvd, but if I extract to a folder before I use eicfg remove the iso file extracts as separate folders and eicfg remove won't work.

I don't use imageburn, but , I will try it later, if no-one else replies- Does it have a little box to tick to"make disk bootable, like CDXPburner does (and iso to usb does) . It seems possible that the disk you created has not been made "bootable"

If you extract a Windows iso to a DVD you just get the Windows files and it won't be bootable. ISOs have to be burnt to DVD, which ImgBurn can do. I haven't been following this thread so apologies if I'm misunderstanding your issue.

    Exactly, Earthling...........
If you cannot get it to boot, try the other way, as I said in post 37-AS FOLLOWSS
With W7 you will need to use the key to install, and then -do not update.USE ORIGINAL W7 DISK, AND KEY, BUT THEN STOP- UNINSTALL CHIPSET, SHUT DOWN. REMOVE AND PUT HARD DRIVE IN PROBLEM COMPUTER-DO NOT GO ON-LINE (JUST IN CASE.
Before putting the hard drive in the problem computer, it might be worth uninstalling the chipset in device manager, before shutting down, and installing in your problem computer- Might work without doing that, but worth thinking about.

Ok new hard drive arrived, will be fitting it tomorrow and if all goes well installing win7, so my first question is will the old hard drive be easy to access?

If you put in a enclosure, it is easiest- Simply attach the enclosure(with the hard drive inside it...) with usb cable, and search it with the new system-Either way you may need to use your password to access the drive.
If attaching in the computer, you need to go into Bios,/boot menu, and select the new hard drive as first boot- but do not attach at all until Windows is up and running, and an antivirus installed and updated (That old hard drive may be suspect) Ideally,it wuld be useful for you to scan that old drive with an antivirus on disk, before attempting to get into it (Might save more trouble)

I thought the avira rescue disk was the go , it got to avira screen and i ran the rescue disk and there was a lot of disk reading and stuff and then it stopped with a black screen with the cursor flashing in top left corner, i was hoping it would fix boot but no go and kaspersky was a no go as well couldn't get it to work, btw what is an enclosure? in between work and downloading rescue disks i didn't get around to fitting new hard drive in computer, will do tomorrow and will let you know how it turns out.

With it stopping with black screen,it is still possible either the hard drive, or, dvd drive are failing.
I would not test anymore, until new hard drive is working, as you may lose accessibilitya to the old hard drive,if it decides it has had its day.
You could try the dvd drive from the other computer................in the problem computer.......But,
As you have a new hard drive, I would try it in the problem computer, and see if it loads up Windows.
If it does not,put the hard drive in the XP computer(disconnect,or remove thee XP hard drive- see if it loads (W7 can load basic system on older computers)- If does this O.K- do not activate it. Go to Device manager, and choose whatever chipset is installed (AMD/INTEL) uninstall from there- give it a couple of minutes, and just shutdown.
Remove hard drive, and install in problem computer- try booting up- if not activated, then you should be able to let windows install whatever drivers it can, (then, ensure the display drivers, are installed, first)
It is a shame that you could not create the all version dvd)
If it goes well, then try a dvd in the dvd drive, and see if it will continue reading it. If it stalls at some point-..........
External enclosure--A bit pricy in Australia, mate (double the cost that we get in U.K),but might be worth connecting internally to save money- cheapest I can see in Ausie............................

Ok new hard drive installed check , win7 installed check, drivers installed check, Antivirus installed check, and I can see the old drive in my computer and I can see files but won't copy anything until I hear from you guys in case there is something to be careful of, I would like to retrieve music I had in windows media player and emails I had in outlook express, btw will emails sent to my email address appear on my new computer once I download outlook?

    Great.
First, ensure antivirus is running, and have it check the old hard drive. Then, save your all your files.
I find my e-mails are still on the servers, when I go on-line with any computer, so, I am pretty sure yours will be, but, it is prudent to go to Outlook, direct if necessary (just type in browser) before deleting anything.
Your media player files should be accessible, I believe that add them to the library, open WMP and look for the files on the old hard drive,- and add to library-- but if not, come back

Ok you won't believe this! I am having trouble processing this myself and feel like ending it all! As I was saying in previous post the new hard drive was working and all was good until I tried to print a pdf document and realized I hadn't a pdf program so canceled print and computer froze so I turned it off at the power button and back on and rebooted to the same black screen as before with the bcd error message so I turned it off and back on and now it keeps booting to bios in a loop ie can't get past bios

Ok more info, last night when I turned computer off it started downloading windows updates and my wife said it was on for an hour before turning off and today when I turned it on it did a windows configuration and turned itself off and back on again which was just before I tried to do a print. I understand that the updates are normal for a new hard drive with a new installation of windows but could this have been a problem ? Tomorrow I am going to do something that I should have tried before and that is putting the old hdd into my spare computer if the cables are compatible

Ok couldn't wait til tomorrow so tried old hdd in spare comp and as expected booted to the corrupt bcd file screen so tried new hdd in spare comp and boots to this screen
    20180318_180733.jpg
The interesting thing is I had a look in bios at boot sequence and 1st boot was removable drive and so I'm wondering if because when I was going to print earlier I had a flash drive in usb when comp froze and then rebooted with flash drive still in usb port wether this is the cause of malfunction?

I would make sure nothing else is attached when starting up. If printing, you should be able to just direct it to the printer-
    Plse refresh us-
Did you use the second computer to instal, as I suggested , and then put it in old computer ?
Did you uninstall the chipset ?
When you put it in the old computer (Assuming that is how you did it) did you try the wsus tool, or, Windows update itself ?
If you hard shutdown with windows update.....problems- It might be easier to re-install.

I put new hdd in problem computer and installed win7 no problems, so if I had put new hdd in spare comp would I uninstall chipset on spare computer or problem comp? No didn't use wsus tool, windows just updated each time I turned comp off and configured each time I turned on. What I think I will do now is take old hdd out of comp and reinstall win7 and treat it like a brand new install and get it running nice and stable before I start copying files from old hdd.

You need to delete all partitions, one at a time, starting with the last partition, then format the resulting unallocated space (whole hard drive) Then instll W7.
I don't know how you got a GPT partition on there, as W7 is not partial to GPT. When you format it format nfts.

Ok puter is up and running again, I just want to thank baklogic for all his help and patience, there is just one thing though, I can't seem to find the email program I was using ( outlook ) on the old hdd so that I can retrieve my contacts

I am pleased to know you have managed to get installed again- I suggest you use wsus to update, as it can do a lot offline.
I appreciate your thanks- that is all any majorgeek looks forward to- makes it all worthwhile.
Now if you have usb stick spare, try saving some of your stuff to that- andIf I can make a suggestion- Aspare hard drive in a caddy can be so useful to keep copies of anything of particular value, as a backup.
Unfortunately, Hotmail/mail,and Outlook (All just basically updated versions) have made it a bit obscure.

    If you click on

With W10, there was an update that put the 'people' icon on the toolbar, but I have not checked if it had done that on Windows 7.
That makes it easy in W10, as you can actually import them- but, as I said, in w7, I am pretty sure you willnot get tht.
