About a week ago, a friend of mine called me asking me to try to connect to a website where he works. The site is actually a video server that allows the public to view several cameras installed around the plant. I tried to get on and couldn't, but neither could he. When I connected to the site, it came up with an active x warning asking me to install an active x control to view the cameras.

I told it to install the control and after a few seconds, got a warning that internet explorer wouldn't allow me to install the control because it couldn't verify the publisher. The warning didn't include the option of overriding it. The file it blocked was RemoteWeb.CAB. My friend was getting the same warning on his computer.

He later called me back and said he got his working, but he had to change some settings in his internet security. I asked him to show me which ones he changed. When I went to Internet Options, then the Security tab, I clicked on Advanced and noticed something odd. The only options showing in the Advanced Settings were "Permissions For Components With Manifest", Run Components Not Signed With Authenticode" and "Run Components Signed With Authenticode." The Slide Bar was gone and the Default button was blanked out.

All of my Active X controls were not there, along with some other components. After thinking for a bit, I realized that the other cameras I visited stopped working after I took the last security updates from Microsoft. I used to visit a local website with a camera looking down Main Street where I live. It uses Axis Media Viewer and it will not work either. Any suggestions on what the heck is going on and how I can restore my Active X options in the Security Folder??

i believe the tab you are talking about is the custom settings tab in which you can customize the activex control settings in you browser.if you cannot access this menu it could be malware related,if i were you i would complete the read and run me first malware removal guide located here " http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 "then post the results in the malware section.good luck.
