Missing config/sys repaired but

I got the missing config message after a power outage. I went through the process of rewriting the 5 registry entries from repair procedure. XP boots now. Some software works and some doesn't. The "my documents" have been cleared. The XP registration has been undone.
I guess my question is is there a way to tell what was corrupted so that maybe I can add back some of the software, default, sam, security, or system entries from the .bak files in tmp. Will this get me back some of the missing files?
I have the entire hard drive imaged pre crash on an external drive in case of a disaster. can I get the original system files from this image?

 

The first thing to try is a System Restore from the latest restore point before the crash.

 

I did go through the system restore process. The restore point was from 1 week ago. It provided the same results. I wasn't sure if that restore point would overrule the changed registry entries. The current startup and the startup from the week old restore point were the same. Both appeared to be from the original install. I guess thats when the repair files I used were layed down. Windows XP forgot it was registered and only a small handfull of the desktop programs appeared. The password protected logon screen was gone. The documents folder is fresh. I can find the newer proper admin documents files. The system just doesn't boot to the start file that includes them. All of my software is still on the drive. Some programs wont initialize. They were probably not registered in the registry.
