Missing Drive E?

I recently got a psp but it won't let me download things from the net with my usb cable. Why? Because the portable drive doesn't appear, you know, drive "E," it just doesn't appear.....at all. My computer obviously has the hardware, it does have a USB port...but am I supposed to install something or what? Please help?

 

Before any helpful advice can be given, it will be necessary to know what OS and service pack level that you are running!

 

You said a bunch of things I don't know... OS? And service pack? Are you talking about my computer or the psp? Sorry, there's a reason why I need help with com problems. :-(

 

I'm referring to your computer and the operating system ( Win98, 2000, XP ) that you are running on it.

 

Oh, it's windows 98.

 

Your problem could be caused by several things. Have you ever used your USB port for anything before?

Go to Control Panel/System/Device Manager and click on hardware. See if there is an exclamation point in a yellow box or triangle next to your USB controller.

Did your portable drive come with its own power supply, and if so, is it plugged in. Some USB ports are powered and some aren't. If your computer has more than one USB port swapping the device to another port could solve the problem.

As USB support basically started with Win98, it could be that you may need a specific driver for your device. Did your drive come with an installation CD. You could also check the manufacturers web site to see if they have a Win98 specific driver!

Yeah, its very unlikely that Windows 98 has drivers for the PSP built in, and if its not Windows 98se, its even less likely you will find any as well.
