I am installing from the HP cd the sftwr for my laser jet 3055 on my XP machine and it won't complete the installation because it needs the file - hppldcoi.dll

This is a showstopper. Where can I find this file?

    Thanks

Have you tried downloading a new driver from HP?

I did some research and it appears that other people have had this same problem and found the missing file on the hard drive using the Windows search function. Something else.... this exact same question was posted at the HP forums back in April 2008. I mean it's EXACTLY the same question, word for word, except the model number of the printer is a bit different (same series of LaserJet though).

yes, I've been to the HP site, but I'm missing the hppldcoi.dll driver(I guess it's a driver) and I didnt see it there and didnt know what to get..
I saw that other page, and I tried to what it said, like run the scrubber program from the CD disk and I found the scrubber program and couldnt get it to run.....I came here cause this place has answers to balance out the severe lack of computer knowledge I have.

    Hi

When you get asked for this file do you get the option to search or browse for it when the message the file is missing crops up, if so search for the file and note its containing folder (I found that file in this location C:\Windows\System32)

Also do make sure your logged on as the admin when installing the drivers

yes, and I was doing the installation and it said that file was missing, so I searched my computer, found it and inserted the address to where the file was on my computer only 26 seconds later it asked for hpxp3390.dll and thats no where to be found!
all I want is to re-install my HP, why is so hard this time and not before?

Hmmm.... I could have sworn that you said you tried the download I linked to above. It contains the hpxp3390.dll file. But since you seem to be having problems, download the print/scan driver from this direct link. When the download finishes, download and install TUGzip. TUGzip can extract RAR files, ZIP files, 7zip files, many EXE files, and just about any archive or self-extracting archive you're likely to encounter. When installing TUGzip just click 'Next' all the way through. At the end of the install, there will be a little check-box for "Launch TUGzip"; go ahead and launch it; click "Next" all the way through again until you see a "Finish" button; there will be a column on the left side with a bunch of different archive formats; click the "Select All" button; click "Finish". A window will open that looks like an Explorer-type window, close it. Now, right click the HP driver file you downloaded and click the 2nd upward pointing green arrow, it will say something like "Extract to: .\filename" and the file will extract to a folder of the same name. Open this folder and launch the file named hpzsetup.exe. If you get any 'file not found' errors, point it to the extracted folder. It contains the hpxp3390.dll mentioned above, and has numerous other files and subfolders if other files cannot be located for whatever reason.

crap, I seem to be doing something very wrong.......and that, my friend, was not realizing just how awesome this reply was.
I had to read this well, as it had very very easy step by step directions, which I thank you so much for.
    I can now print again!
    Thanks

:highfive Glad to hear all is well, and I'm always happy help! I try to describe things in a clear and straight-forward manner with as little PC jargon as possible. . . . and you are quite welcome! :-D
