missing or corrupted nvgts.sys

Hi all,

My ASRock N68-S mobo with an IDE DVD-RW and Sata HD refuses to boot into XP (normal or safe mode) saying "nvgts.sys is missing or corrupted, insert you installation CD and repair" This is what I've found out so far:


1) nvgta.sys is an NVidia storage driver and nothing to do with Windows.
2) There are no restore points available
3) ERD Commander's Hotfix Uninstaller shows the following update was installed last night "Windows Feature Pack for Storage (32-bit) IMAPI update for Blu-ray) but won't successfully uninstall it
4) renaming the file and booting doesn't make any difference.

Is there a way of telling Windows to boot using the windows drivers instead of the Nvidia one using, say, a Live CD (no floppy on this baby unfortunately!)

Your mobo uses the NVIDIA® GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a chipset, so Windows is running on a nVidia chipset, all files loaded/saved by Windows are controlled by this. Installing the latest version of the hardware makers' drivers might fix it.

 

yes, that would be ideal, but as it's not booting either to safe or any other mode, I'm asking if there's a way to force the Nvidia drivers out and replace them with the original MS drivers

 

You can try reading the article here, pay close attention to the panel about disabling drivers or sevices. Try last known good at least 10 times before anything else - you never know your luck.
