Missing Setup.exe

Hello I wasn't sure how to title this post, but I have a Windows 10 PC and it doesn't have a disc drive and a game I wanted to play that requires a disc is on my old Windows 7, I was told by a rep at Origin (EA Games advisor) if I put the game onto a USB then transferred it to my Windows 10 I could then play it without a disc on Origin or Steam, but I don't have a USB stick and I wouldn't know how to transfer it. So I uploaded the games folder onto my personal mediafire so I could install the game on my Windows 10, (That's the only way I could think how to transfer it across.) but I don't have an option to install the game only to play it. There isn't a setup.exe file instead it says 'Startup' I can play the game but there are some items missing and game patches, and DLC's which are in the correct folders but not showing in the game. (The DLC's came with the game, they are not third party mods.)

So my question is, how do I install it? Or how can I transfer it a better way so I have an option to install rather than just play?

How did you install the game on your Windows 7 PC?

With the disks that I own, because my Windows 7 PC has a disc drive.

Copy the contents of the disk to the USB stick and run the setup file.

I was given this advice before by the EA rep as I said in my original post, but I do not have a USB stick nor do I know how to copy anything onto one, I suppose my final option would have to be buying an external cd/dvd driver.

A USB stick is a lot cheaper than an external CD/DVD drive. And you don't have to install drivers - Windows will do it for you the first time you plug it in.

Hello, I have managed to borrow an empty thumb drive and I've found a tutorial on how to transfer the disc to the thumb, (That is if it allows it to be copied.) but this is a 3 disc game, so will they copy into different folders? because obviously I have to install them in the correct order. Or can I rename the folder so I know which disc is which?

Thank you for all of your help.

Rename the folders exactly the same as the disks.

I knew this was going to be the issue, because it is on 3 disks, it starts the install and stops when it needed the second disk. I have copied the files onto my desktop as the tutorial said. I don't know where I should place the disk 2 and 3 files though so that the computer can recognise that they are there. Both folders have the exact same named files inside so I can't just copy them into the first folder.

Oh I didn't see your reply above, is it because I didn't name them the same as whatever was opened so it can't find it? I'm very sorry to be a pain. Can I just rename the folders or will I have to copy them again?

    Just rename the folders.

Hi again, Eldon. Thank you again for your patience and assistance. I have renamed the folders exactly, but it's still throwing up the error once it wants disk 2. The 3 folders are all sat on my desktop again now, I did try placing the folder 2 and 3 into the first folder and tried again but still I got the same error. Do you have anymore suggestions, please?

When the install requests Disc 2, just open the relevent folder on your desktop and double click the autorun file for Disc2.

If they are ISO image files you can also mount them to a virtual drive and run it from there when requested.

Hello Replicator, The autorun file in disc 2 folder just open a notepad with txt in it when I double click.

How did you copy the disc files to your desktop?

Autorun shouldn't be a text file.

I opened the the thumb stick, view files, right click and copy and pasted them onto the desktop as the tutorial told me to.

Edit: I right clicked the properties on the setup file and I have an option to change the file type, where it says change, if I need to change it, what do I change it to?

If you don't mind laying out a modest amount you could bypass all these difficulties with an external optical drive. We use them here for the laptops and they make light work of issues such as this.

I was going to buy an external CD drive but I have been told twice that this thumb stick option is cheaper and supposed to be easy, but I am just a novice wanting to play a 'retro game' and instead keep getting error after error. I am tempted to just go and buy an external CD drive and put this hassel behind me if there isn't a solution on how to fix this next issue.

The autorun.inf file is a text file that will open in the default text editor when double-clicked.
Sometimes the executable is named autorun.exe but usually it's setup.exe or install.exe.
    This is the easiest solution.

Either that, or extract the data as an ISO from the disc using software of your choice (many out there), and mount the image to run?
