Mistaken Overwritten Word File Need Original Back

Is there a way to get an original word file back once it has been written over? i did not delete it just made some changes and saved it by accident. now I dont have the original document. is it stoed in a temp file somewhere?

 

Maybe. What is your OS?

If you have Vista, you can grab a shadow copy, they usually go back a few days.

If XP...you are probably in a bind.

Then its unlikely you will be able to find a backup copy.

 

thats what I thought. i sometimes get carried away and close a Word or Excel file and clicking save too fast and then not able to recover the original.

 

I totally understand. I ran into similar circumstances yesterday when I inadvertently found a way to crash Word 2007, while I was working on something.
