Hi all, My system is XP Pro SP3 and I am using Office 2000.

I have a small prob with Word and I would like to fix it if it's not going to be too difficult for me to do so.
The problem is when I want to make a word Red in an email or Word doc, it comes out Blue, and when I click on Blue the word comes out Red.
I do have an Office 2000 disk if that’s of any use, but it would be nice to know what has caused the fault in the program.
    Regards Robert.

Give this a go. launch word. Help> Detect and Repair> Discard my customized setting and restore default. I'm not sure if you have customized office, if you have this will reset all.
I've got Office 2003 but it should be the same.

    Cheers..

In retrospect, the above may be overkill for what you want to achieve. Wait for some others to respond. I did run the above on my system, no problems- but I don't use Outlook or other Office apps besides Word on this machine, neither do I have anything of substance.

    Cheers..

    Hi sikvik
I actually answered you yesterday, but it hasn't shown on the thread yet so here it is again.
I felt quite comfortable following your directions, so I tried the Detect and Repair using the Office 2000 disc.
Next I wrote some text into Word doc and tried to make a word Red, unfortunately it still came out Blue, so it did not work.
    Regards Robert.

We need to establish whether this problem is confined to Word, or to all Office programs, or even to everything. What happens if you open Paint and draw in red?

I do not remember W2000, but I think this would be almost the same. In the Home tab you can see a big "A" with a line in (in your case in red) click it and this will display a pallette click default, this will change it to black again. Hope this helps.:confused

To change the color (or any attribute) of a word in Word it must be selected. As long as the word or sentence is selected you will not see the final color, but a color that shows in the selection.

So after the color change, when you deselect the word, is it still showing the wrong color?

To illustrate what I was trying to say above, here is a little demo (in Word 2000).

    First I type some text

    then I select a word
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=150469&stc=1&d=1291438945

You see that the black text is now inverted to white; now I click on the Blue color button
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=150470&stc=1&d=1291438945

and you see that color is not blue, but yellow. When I deselect it

the color is now true blue.

I did the same with red, but it seems I can only upload 4 images.

    Hi Guys
Thanks for your help, I don't use PAINT but I do alter colours in emails, and they come out ok. It’s seems to be just word that’s affected.
It’s not a catastrophe as I can use the colours, but I would like to cure it if possible.

This is what happens...My version of Word has a drop down menu arrow next to the big A with the heavy line under it when the arrow is pressed the colour chart is displayed with a larger black square as Automatic (or default)

Having written text in default black I highlight a word which shows white on black, if I select Red from the menu the highlighted text changes to yellow, and on deselection the whole text turns Blue, as does the colour band under the big A

If I next highlight more black text and click the big A which has now a Blue line under it, the text turns Red on deselection, as does the colour band under the big A

It only seems to do this with Red and Blue, the shades differ depending on which shad of red or blue has been selected from the menu.
    Regards Robert. :)
