What have you decided on so far and give some examples of games he or she plays

just heads up $200.00 is might be stretching it a little thin to get a CPU/GPU/MB
depending on what games are played and how good he or she expects them to run and look

As posted i think you are optimistic with 200 pounds you could pay that for a good CPU or GPU.
As an example i have just built a new rig recently for heavy graphics and the Mobo was $195 the CPU was $240 and the GPU (please sit down) $500,admittedly the GPU is top of the range (GTX295 by Nvida) but the others are mid range.

I'll call 200 lbs $300 CDN, you could get a decent dual core, mobo, DDR2 RAM and a 9600GT for a bit more than that. See if you can find some S939 AMD processors as they are getting hard to find. This is all assuming that you're reusing the case, PSU and drives. Oh, the PSU might not be sufficient depending on when it was made, like needing a 24 pin ATX plus four pin power for modern mobos.

You're going to need some memory too, unless you have some from a previous system. So, here's an AMD system:
CPU (AthlonII 3.0ghz Dual Core): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103681
    Mobo (Asus M3A78-CM): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131330
    GPU (nVidia 9600GT 512mb): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130485
This comes out to about $240US which is about 146 pounds. DDR2-800 memory (2x2gb Corsair PC6400 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184) would bring the total up to $287US (or about 175 pounds). This rig would be pretty fast and would provide a great gaming experience also.

thanks for replies guys .. well I wasnt far out with what I had picked out today .. But I will go with the Asrock Mobo dlb suggested with a
PNY Geforce 9400GT 512MB PCI-Express and a AMD 64x2 5200 this will keep it to budget if you think that its not close enough and go with all your suggestions i will see my friend and suggest to bump budget a little further. Thanks again.. Its easy to spend ones own money but other peoples. I have a problem there ;)

Taking a look on a site I use quite alot I found these:

Thats a 2nd gen Athlon X2 thats a great price for the 3.0GHz ver

I'm not up to date on nVidia chipsets but judging by the price i'd say it's not new :-D, but it will work.

An XFX 9600GT very good brand @ a great price.

Total £171.80, a bit over budget but it's not easy finding old CPU's & cheap motherboards :confused

Take a look on their website if you want: http://www.awd-it.com/scripts/default.asp

A online supplier based in the Uk :)
I just thought that total is before shipping :confused, I don't think you will find that kind of spec for much less than £200 :(

Also what else do you have already? RAM, Optical drives, Hard drives, power supply & a case you will need, thankfully that mobo is micro ATX so it will fit in any case but the GPU is probably around 10" long.

Great suggestions but that mobo has an ATI/AMD northbrige wich isn't really ideal.
