I have a mobo (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813186062) that I ordered awhile back and have no problems since. I have owned and used it every day for about 6 months now.

I turned my computer off last night then came back this afternoon to turn it on. The fans spun, the mouse light turned on and everything. Just nothing really "happening" inside there. Nothing on the screen, nothing.

    Any ideas?

Could be several things. Can you list the power supply, RAM, Video cards and all the specs of the computer. Do you get any beeps when you try to start it?

Like Fred said, it could be several different things, but personally, I'm thinking the PSU took a dump. Many are the times I've seen a PSU spin up the fans and light the LED's, but not actually boot up the PC. You could try to remove all devices (HD's, CD's, any PCI cards, 1 RAM stick, etc) and then try to boot up. If it fires up, replace each item, one-by-one until the PC stops responding. This way you can narrow it down. Be SURE the power cord is UNPLUGGED from the PSU when opening the case and removing or replacing any devices!

    Not the PSU.

Removed all devices power cords and tried, no luck. Still stuck doing...nothing...

Any more ideas? The mobo can still be RMA'd through Newegg but I'd rather not loose my whole weekend of WoW time :p

It probably sounds stupid, but I read up about a similar problem, on a 939 Amd board.
Cannot lose totry it, before giving up on motherboard.and the instruction I recieved was to try, on start up, pressing the insert button, to reset it.
It might be a peculiarity in some 939 boards.

    Didnt work :p

How do you know it is not the PSU? Have you tested it? I would have to agree with hopperdave and suspect the PSU.

I tried 2 other mobos with the PSU and they both ran fine. No problems.

Contacted Foxconn and unless I get a fix here, I'm going to RMA it.

May sound simple but worth asking... have you checked that the reset button is not jammed/wedged in slightly. Another thing to try - have you tried reseating the cpu, I have seen a couple of cases of chip creep causing simular probs

Well, looks like you found your problem. Before you send it back, can you test your RAM and video card in another system just to make sure?

With the power disconnected try resetting the cmos jumper or removing the battery for 10 secs,if you have a spare keyboard try that also

Fred, Memory tested and checks. Video card I cannot test seeing I have no other PCI-E capable mobos.

Rikky, I've reset the BIOS and removed the battery, no luck.

Beeps Codes would come from onboard speaker if you even have an onboard speaker
(Onboard speaker would be either on the MOBO or inside the case)
External speakers will not work for diagnostic Beep Codes

The first thing to test is the PSU, this need's to be tested with a Multi-Meter
PSU's are the # 1 cause of PC problems
    Roswill make crap PSU's

Other thing's to test before MOBO RMA
    Memory
    Video card
    Monitor
    Cables
also try to reseat the Memory & VC

I would also reset CMOS/BIOS sometime quicky doesnt work
try 10 min first then 8 hr still no good try 24 hr CMOS clear
When resetting unplug power remove battery, then press the case power switch this will remove the juice from the MOBO caps
Then when trying to power up tap the insert key ( Insert Key of your Keyboard) if you see signs of life while powering up dont try to boot to windows enter BIOS if your able then resetore system defaults "Save and Exit" BIOS
Then try to boot to windows

    Thanks a bunch ASUS!

I'm going to leave it on CMOS clear while I sleep tonight and see if that clears it up!

What exactly does the Insert key pressing do for the computer?

Honestly I dont know, but Ive seen it work
It's part of procedure for Long CMOS clear for a DFI NF4 MOBO

I made a little mistake in the instruction:eek:

Here's better instructions, I modified it slightly:

Remove power from the rig by pulling the plug or switching the PSU off.

Make sure your onboard speaker is connected or activated, some are via jumper.

    Remove the Battery.

Move the CMOS jumper to CLEAR if you have a CMOS jumper.

Press the Start Button on the case to drain the capacitors.

You may leave the board in this condition for as long as it takes to clear the CMOS. If a short 30 second clear or a 15 minute clear doesn't work, try an 8 hour clear then a 24 hour clear.

    Plug in a PS2 Keyboard.

    Put one stick of RAM.

    Replace the Battery.

Move the CMOS jumper to Normal if you have one.

Press and hold the Insert Key on the Keyboard.

Apply power to the rig by plugging the power in or using the switch on the PSU.

Press the Start Button to power the rig up.

When you hear the BEEP, release the Insert Key and press the Delete Key or what ever key normally accesses BIOS on the Keyboard

Once you enter the BIOS set the DATE and TIME then Load your Optimized Default settings.

    Save and Exit.

Enter the BIOS again and set it up the way you want for your particular system.

I was just looking at you MOBO manual
I wounder if you left your CMOS jumper in the clear position, refer to your Manual page 28 I think
Also look at page 29 you have a Jumper for failed Bios;)

Turn the screen on first and watch its power light as you attempt to boot the pc.
Screen power lights oftern give an indication of activity in the pc as follows.
With no signal the screen displays no signal or the power light blinks on and off or stays orange.
When the pc boot and provides a valid video signal the monitor indicates the change, by the light going steady or changing colour or something.
If this does not happen it indicates that the processor/graphics card is not running.
I have seen this following a lightning strike where the ordinary modem shorted the pci bus halting the processor. but find out if the mobo is producing a valid graphics-on signal.

    Hoys,
This is where you pick up on all the experiences, of real geeks.-Asus, and Studiot, are well versed in this area.
A posting that should help many a new/upgrading system builder.
