I have my best friends wedding video on my JVC Everio. The software that came with it is by all accounts.. awful. I haven't been able to successfully change/convert the .MOD extension without losing sound. (the video and sound are seperate) Any ideas on a good program I can use?

I should let you know that I have just completed the Malware Removal so I am looking for something that isn't going to make my comp crazy!

    thank you in advance!

I did some research, and it appears that the issue you're having is pretty common, but lots of people say that simply changing the .mod extension to .mpg pretty solves the problem. The JVC .mod files are actually in MPEG2 format with the .mod extension (which very few apps recognize). I haven't used it in months, but SUPER has always been able to convert just about anything I could throw at it... maybe give it a shot: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Super_d5117.html It's free, and so is MediaCoder which may work also: http://www.majorgeeks.com/MediaCoder_d4987.html There are some paid products that specifically mention .mod files in their descriptions, one of them is Alive Media's converter (link: http://www.alivemedia.net/3gp-video-converter.htm). It's mainly for converting to iPod or PSP format, but from there, there a million free products that will convert it to .avi or DVD or DivX formats. I also read that Handbrake would do it (it's mainly a DVD ripper: http://www.majorgeeks.com/HandBrake_d5801.html), but somehow, I don't think it will. Well, there's some options, good luck! Maybe try WinAVI (it's not free, but can handle MANY formats: http://www.winavi.com/en/video-converter/video-converter.htm), I've used it and it's FAST. If you want to burn the file to DVD for playback in a home player, try DVDFlick (http://www.majorgeeks.com/DVD_Flick_d5530.html) or maybe FAVC (http://www.majorgeeks.com/FAVC_d5741.html)....
Again, good luck! Let us know how things go!

Thank you.. I will give a few of these a try! Codecs admittedly really confuse me so I'll work through these before I try anything that may send my mind into the abyss!
