modem help

ok im just wodering i have a 56k modem and is their a way to increase my speed,like over clocking???,or a program that i can get to help make it a little bit faster???? my connect speen now is only........26.4kbps! and that realy sucks! so can you helpme out????:confused

 

the speed of connection is determined by the phone line.
dial up is narrow band and the speed is determined also by how close you are to the switching station.
for instance, i use to connect at 45,000k
i'm 12,000 feet from my phone company station.
my friend was 4 miles from the station.
he connected at 21,000k.
we now have dsl, and its speed is greater, and, i connect at 1500 megahertz now, but a fella within 100 yards of the station, is connecting at 650,000 k.
or, 6.5 megahertz.
you best bet for speed is satellite if you have a clear view of the southern sky.

 

i understand what your saying. that makes a lot of scence but let me ask you this....i had a computer about 2 years ago and when i connected it would connect at 45.2kbps and now like i said im only getting 26.6kbps.but they have been upgradeing the phone lines ever scence att bought bellsouth and we are suppose to have dsl by march the 8th,ive allreddy ordred it and im getting the dsl ultra 1.5. now heres the catch i live 7miles outside of town in the countryand i think thats where the nearest station is. but i was just wondering b/c ive been reading stuff on line about how to over clock a modem and felt like i should ask you guys b/ci trust what youguys say over anny one else. but seeing how im getting high speed i figured this was a great op to try out some overclocking or modding b/c if i hurt the modem im not losing any thing. but if you guys say na leaveit alone and just wait than thats what ill do. how fast is 1.5ultra dsl??
