    Hi,

I own a Linksys Wag54GP2 V2 modem. I don't live in a very big house but somehow I have a wifi coverage problem. The house is approx. 90 square meters. The modem is in my bedroom. I am often not able to connect my iPad from the living room which is 6-7 meters away. The problem is there are 3 walls between the modem and the living room but shouldn't the modem be able to overcome this kind of obstacles? My question is how to extend the range of my wifi coverage? If possible, I don't want to add additional hardware in other rooms (I can add in my bedroom or I can change the modem with a better one). Change tha antenna maybe?(I am unable to find additional antennas for this particular model in shops).

    Thanks

Walmart has a NetGear WiFi Booster for mobile devices for around $40 and an Amped Wireless SB1000 High Power 802.11b/g/n WiFi Signal Booster for around $77. Maybe either of these items will suit your needs. I'm sure other places like newegg.com will have similar items.

Microsoft also has some advice which may improve the range without buying anything more.

Try changing Channels on the wifi sometimes will help.

It depends on what is inside those walls and whatever else is between you and the modem. The wavelength of a wifi signal is only a few cm long and conductors with longer major dimensions will act as reflectors.

I can move my music server's USB adapter to the back of the computer, behind a 20cm square metal case, and lose most of my signal. I can clamp my steel swingarm lamp next to my router and obliterate wifi throughout half of the house. I also have an antique mirror in my bedroom whose silvering (on the back) blocks wifi signals. And last, but not least, the one and only (nearly) dead spot in my house (between the kitchen and living room) corresponds to three walls, each with a light switch and copper wire running up to a ceiling light, and a chimney with rebar, in a near perfect line between the router and the (nearly) dead spot.

I suppose I could always sit on the floor when I absolutely have to work in the sliding door frame separating the kitchen from the living room.
