    Hi Guys.
I don't have the MonaRonaDona virus, so feel free to move this to a different category if you don't think it should be here.

I visit several different malware forums and there seems to be some contention over this new Unigray Antivirus. Some people are claiming that Unigray Antivirus removes MRD, while others think that it may be implicated in causing it.

This thread at cnet seems to show that people were claiming Unigray removed MRD before it was added to Unigray's detections. [Post #21 (as of this writing) in this cnet thread:

I personally question how an antivirus that has been on the market less than two weeks seems to be the only one that finds and removes MRD, and I was wondering if you guys have done any testing and/or have any opinions on this Unigray Antivirus? Also do you think that any suspected connection between the two is warranted?

    Call me suspicious...

    Hi Cobra

I moved this to software to allow your question to get a wider audience as some maybe upto speed on this new AV.

I not heard of this one as yet, I could suspect that as in many security apps and removal apps that the writers specifically aimed to remove MRD, like some have better capabilities to remove Vundo, Zlob etc HOWEVER I do suspect any application that the makers do not list their address details on their website as being bogus and as you mentioned could actually causing this or listing many infections which it caused to fool the user into buying this app to remove malware that was not on the PC.

Personal opinion is to stear well clear of this one.

I recently had the (dis)pleasure of dealing with Mona.... the link posted above by sosaman shows exactly how I removed it. I never did see anything about Unigray, and therefore never even thought of it as an option. After I did a bit of research on Mona, I ran into the Unigray name and it seems that it has only been around for maybe a week or so, which coincides with the arrival of Mona. Hmmmm..... a bit too coincidental for me. Anyway, I see no reason to use Unigray whether it's legit or not, as I got rid of Mona without it, using the steps outlined in the post linked to above. I think Mona is a Smitfraud/IEDefender variant, so using apps aimed at these should help get rid of Mona. Interesting thread, I'm curoius about how others are going to deal with Mona as it appears to be more widespread now than 2-3 days ago....

yeh, i failed to mention that you (dlb) started that thread. i did alot of reading from cobrajets link (i never heard of it), which went to other links, etc, etc. let's just say it was very interesting reading material, and if it were me, i'd stay clear of them as well. fortunately all my pc's are safe. i guess i'll have to be checking in on all the relatives this week. - sos

edit - i'd be interested on knowing how this thing is spreading?

yeh, well i think it's funny that the monaronadona isn't listed on the "new spyware threats" (unigrays main page). i found this link in a yahoo search (screenshot below). funny that it doesn't work. maybe they are trying to let things die down a bit? just my opinion. - sos
